Garry Kasparov is the youngest World Chess Champion, Gukesh has a chance to surpass that

It is difficult to view the 1985 World Chess Championship in isolation, following as it did only 7 months after the highly controversial finish of the 1984 championship between the same players. On 8 February 1985, after 48 games had been contested over 5 months, the 1984 championship was abandoned with no result, becoming the first, and thus far only, chess world championship to finish in this way. The official 1985 World Chess Championship was played between Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov in Moscow, Soviet Union from September 3 to November 9, 1985. Kasparov won, to become the thirteenth and youngest world champion at the age of 22.

Gukesh Dommaraju (born 29 May 2006), also known as Gukesh D, is an Indian chess grandmaster, who is going to play the World Chess Championship 2024 – Gukesh vs Ding Liren. Gukesh is the third-youngest grandmaster in history, the third-youngest to reach a chess rating of 2700, the youngest to reach a rating of 2750.

By the age of 17, Gukesh won the Candidates Tournament in Toronto, Canada, in April 2024, thereby earning the right to challenge for the World Chess Championship title. This victory made him the youngest ever to win the Candidates Tournament, showcasing his prowess against some of the world’s best players.

Now Gukesh has a chance to become the youngest World Chess Champion if he wins the 2024 World Chess Championship, surpassing Kasparov’s achievement.
