European Union Youth Chess Championships 2025

The 22nd European Union Youth Chess Championship 2025, organized by the Styrian Chess Federation in Mureck. Registration Deadline: June 15, 2025

Citizens of EU or Schengen states, Ukraine, and Kosovo are eligible to play. Each federation can register one player (boy or girl) per age group (U8, U10, U12, U14, based on January 1, 2025) and additional extra players.

Schedule of the European Union Youth Chess Championships 2025

  • Aug 1: Arrival and registration (15:00–22:00)
  • Aug 2: Opening ceremony (14:30), Round 1 (15:00)
  • Aug 3: Round 2 (09:30), Round 3 (15:00)
  • Aug 4: Round 4 (15:00)
  • Aug 5: Round 5 (09:30), International blitz tournament (~15:00)
  • Aug 6: Round 6 (15:00)
  • Aug 7: Round 7 (09:30), Excursion to Motorikpark Gamlitz (~15:00–18:30, no organizer supervision)
  • Aug 8: Round 8 (15:00)
  • Aug 9: Round 9 (09:30), Closing ceremony (~14:30), Departure

Rules and Regulations

  • Format: 9-round Swiss System, FIDE-rated.
  • Time Control: 90 minutes per game + 30 seconds increment per move from move one.
  • Pairings: National ratings ignored.
  • Gender: Boys and girls play together but are ranked separately.
  • Tiebreaks: (1) Buchholz cut-1, (2) Buchholz, (3) Sonneborn-Berger, (4) Greater number of wins.
  • Default Time: 15 minutes per round.
  • Draws: No agreed draws before Black’s 30th move, except for perpetual check or threefold repetition via arbiters.
  • Group Size: Groups with fewer than 16 players may be combined.

Prizes

  • Top three players in each age group receive trophies.
  • Top three girls in each age group receive separate trophies.
