Today would have been the 30th birthday of Daniel Naroditsky

Daniel Naroditsky, the acclaimed American chess grandmaster, author, streamer, and beloved commentator affectionately known as “Danya,” tragically passed away. The sad and shocking news overwhelmed the chess world and left the community in dismay and shock. Daniel Naroditsky was not only a great player, but a fantastic streamer and educator, a true ambassador of the chess game. One of the frequents tributes on social media today reads, “I started playing chess because of Daniel Naroditsky”

Today would have been the 30th birthday of Daniel Naroditsky. Daniel “Danya” Aaron Naroditsky (November 9, 1995 – October 19, 2025) was an American chess grandmaster (GM), commentator, and content creator. He had a peak FIDE rating of 2647 in classical chess and was regularly ranked in the top 200. He won the under-12 World Youth Championship in 2007 and the under-20 US Junior Championship in 2013. Naroditsky was a specialist in speed chess. In blitz chess, he had a peak rating of 2716 and was ranked in the top 25 in the world. He will be missed in the chess community, but we will make sure his legacy lives on.
