Strong field at the XTX Markets London Chess Classic 2025

The XTX Markets London Chess Classic (LCC) returns to the capital between 26th November and 7th December 2025. Following GM Gawain Jones’s victory in 2024, the event will once again be held largely at the iconic Emirates Stadium, switching to London Novotel West in Hammersmith to avoid clashes with Arsenal home matches.

FIDE World Senior Individual Chess Championship reaches halfway point

The FIDE World Senior Individual Chess Championship 2025 has reached its halfway mark in Gallipoli, Italy. A total of 429 players, of which titled are 189 players, hailing from 62 federation, are participating in this year’s competition. In the 50+ Open, four GMs Michal Krasenkow, Mikheil Kekelidze, Rogelio Antonio, and Victor Mikhalevski share the lead with 5,0/6. In the 65+ Open, Alexander Mikhalevski stands alone at the top with 5,5/6. In the 50+ Women’s, Ketevan Arakhamia-Grant leads with 5,0/6.

The Amsterdam Chess Open 2025 will take place from October 24 to October 26 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The tournament has 7 categories -A-groep (2050+), (1850 – 2100), B2-groep (1850 – 2100), C1-groep (1650 – 1900), C2-groep (1650 – 1900), D1-groep (1700-), and D2-groep (1700-). The A-groep section is a 6-round Swiss system tournament with a time control of 90 min + 30 sec/move.

Kardzhali International Chess Festival Rapid LIVE

The 1st edition Kardzhali International Chess Festival Rapid will take place from October 25 to October 26 in Kardzhali, Bulgaria. The tournament has 2 categories – Rapid and Blitz. The Rapid section is an 11-round Swiss system tournament with a time control of 15 min + 6 sec/move.

Mihai Suba passes away

The Romanian and Spanish chess player Mihai Suba has passed away. “RIP Mihai Suba. I was a big fan, and we became friends. He will always be remembered,” says GM Renier Castellanos.

FIDE awarded Mihai Suba the International Master title in 1975 and the Grandmaster title in 1978. Born in Bucharest, Romania, Suba, won the Romanian Chess Championship in 1980, 1981, and 1985. Suba began playing chess at the late age of 19 years old. He attended the University of Bucharest and trained in the university’s chess club, where his passion for chess grew quickly.
