After losing to Hans Niemann in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, Magnus Carlsen decided to withdraw from the event. Two weeks later he refused to play against Niemann and resigned his game in the Julius Baer Generation Cup after only two played moves.

European Chess Club Cup 2022 sets a participation record

The 37th European Chess Club Cup and the 26th European Women’s Chess Club Cup will simultaneously take place from 2nd – 10th October in Mayrhofen, Austria. The event sets a new participation record with 87 registered teams: 70 in the open section and 17 in the Women’s event.

Sergey Karjakin’s ban from FIDE events has expired

The FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission (EDC) banned Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin from taking part in FIDE events for six months. EDC found Sergey Karjakin guilty of breach of article 2.2.10 of the FIDE Code of Ethics on March 21st, 2022 and the 6-month ban expired yesterday. Sergey Karjakin appealed to FIDE’s decision, but his appeal got dismissed by the Appeal Chamber of the EDC.
