The 125th edition of the US Open took place July 29 – August 3 in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Dariusz Swiercz is the winner of the event with 8,0/9, ahead of Daniel Naroditsky, Jianchao Zhou, Joshua Friedel, Tanguy Ringoir, Harsha Bharathakoti, Varuzhan Akobian, Praveen Balakrishnan, Sam Schmakel, Oleksii Bilych, Sebastian Kostolansky with 7,5/9.

Vignesh Advaith Vemula the new International Master of India

Vignesh Advaith Vemula becomes the latest International Master of India The 15-year-old from Telangana earned his final IM-norm at 100th Paris IdF Masters held in Paris, France from 12th to 18th July. The teenager earned his first IM-norm at 1st SOA International Chess Festival 2024 GM tournament in February last year. A little over ten months later, he earned his second IM-norm at 15th Odisha Open Grandmaster Chess Festival in December 2024. He also crossed 2400 at the same event. In January 2025 he had a published rating of 2424. Currently, his rating is his highest so far 2441.

British Chess Championships 2026 in Coventry

Coventry will host the 2026 British Chess Championships at the University of Warwick, transforming the city into a hub for chess. Over 1,000 players from across the UK are expected to compete in various tournaments, from under-8s to seniors. This will be the 112th British Chess Championship.
