MPL 59th National Chess Championship of India commenced on Thursday in New Delhi. The event takes place from 22nd December 2022 to 3rd January 2023 with 200 participants competing over 13 rounds. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move one.

The 2022 World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships take place in Almaty (Kazakhstan) between Sunday, the 25th of December and run through until Friday, the 30th of December.

The Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2022 took place from 18-23 December in Baku. It was a 10-player super-tournament consisting of Rapid and Blitz stages and the final standings were determined according to the sum of points of Rapid and Blitz events.

The 88th edition of the Brazilian Chess Championship took place from15-23 December 2022 in Boa Viagem, Recife, concurrently with the Brazilian Women’s Chess Championship 2022. The Open Championship was played in 11 rounds swiss system, and Women’s event was played in 9 rounds swiss system. The time control was 90 minutes for the whole game plus 30 seconds of increment per each move, starting from the move one. 

The 50th edition of the Rilton Cup, Sweden’s biggest open tournament, will be held from December 27 to January 5 in Stockholm, Sweden. The event will be part of the FIDE Circuit, a new qualification path to the Candidates Tournament. The Rilton Cup 2022/2023 will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with the time control of 40 moves in 90 min, followed by 30 min for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 sec/move. 

The FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships 2022 will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from December 25 to 30. World Champion Magnus Carlsen, World Blitz Champion Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, World Fischer Random Champion Hikaru Nakamura, Women’s World Rapid Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk and Women’s World Blitz Champion Bibisara Assaubayeva are just some of the chess stars playing! The total prize fund is $1,000,000.

FIDE’s Fair Play Commission (FPL) is helping the Stockholm Chess Federation with implementing fair play measures before and during the 50th edition of the Rilton Cup, Sweden’s biggest open chess tournament. The Secretary of the Fair Play Commission, Bojana Bejatovic, and Ana Srebrnič were appointed as the Fair Play Officers of the tournament.
