The ninth annual Sinquefield Cup is also the fifth and final leg of the Grand Chess Tour 2022. Eight Tour players (Wesley So, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Levon Aronian, Fabiano Caruana, Alireza Firouzja, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Leinier Dominguez, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov) are joined by wildcards (Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann) for a classical chess event which will be played in 9 round-robin rounds.

The 2022 Maia International Chess Open took place from August 26 to September 1 in Maia. The tournament was played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control: 90 minutes for the whole game + 30 seconds of increment per each move, starting from the move one, featuring the total prize fund of 4.000 euros.

Challengers Chess Tour 2022 will return next month with a line-up of the world’s top juniors. The all-star junior chess section of the Tour will include two events and a final four. The Julius Baer Challenge (September 3 to 4) will be followed by the Magnus Academy Challenge (October 8 to 9) before the overall winner is crowned at the Challengers Final Four on October 29 and 30.

Valeriy Grinev is the winner of the 31st Independence Cup 2022 – 3rd Memorial Sergiy Shystariov. The event took place in Kyiv this 27-28 August. A total of 96 players participated in the event, among which 6 GMs, 6 IMs, 3 FMs, and 1 WFM. A total of seven players finished with 7,0/9, with IM Grinev taking the gold on tiebreak. The silver is for GM Spartak Vysochin, the bronze for IM Viktor Skliarov. In the seven way tie are also the tournament director GM Vadim Malakhatko, the untitled Bogdan Nikitin, IM Sergey Pavlov, and GM Alexey Kislinsky.
