Chess Olympiad 2022 – Closing ceremony LIVE

After a dramatic final round of the Chess Olympiad 2022, Uzbekistan won the Open tournament having better tiebreak criteria than Armenia, while Ukraine clinched gold of the Women’s Chess Olympiad thanks to better tiebreaks than Georgia. The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 concluded today in Chennai after the thrilling final round. Uzbekistan and Armenia (the co-leaders of the open section after 10 played rounds) won their matches against Netherlands and Spain (respectively) to tie for the first place.

A dramatic final round marked the Women’s Chess Olympiad 2022. India’s women’s team headed into the last round as the sole leader of the event, but suffered a loss to USA dropping to the third position on the final rankings. Ukraine and Georgia won their matches against Poland and Azerbaijan (respectively) leaping to the shared first place.

The Armenian team defeated Azerbaijan in the 10th round of the 2022 Chess Olympiad, emerging on the top of the rankings in the co-lead with Uzbekistan. The match between the youth teams of India B and Uzbekistan was 2-1 for India B, thanks to Praggnanandhaa’s great win over Sindarov. Only Gukesh’s game remained: he was playing White against Abdusattorov.
