GM Sam Shankland yesterday played the illegal move which cost him a loss and the USA team left without an important victory. After moving the King to an attacked square, Shankland was forced to play the legal move with the same piece according to the touch-move rule, and any legal move with the King was immediately losing.

Chess Olympiad 2022 – Round 8 board pairings (women’s section)

India’s women’s team extended the sole lead of the Women’s Chess Olympiad 2022. After yesterday’s narrow 2.5-1.5 victory over Azerbaijan, India scored in the 7th consecutive match and holds first place with the maximum of 14 match points. Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia follow with 12 match points, each.

Chess Olympiad 2022 – Round 7 report

The Olympiad is arguably the world’s largest team championship, played at the same time in a single venue. It’s so big – more than 350 four-player teams – that it typically takes two or more buildings to lodge all the games. Here in Chennai, the main venue hall has a capacity for 27 matches in the open category and 20 women’s matches, with more than 350 players.

44th Chess Olympiad 2022 – Round 8 pairings

After escaping from a loss against USA, Armenia maintained the sole lead in the 2022 Chess Olympiad (open section) scoring 13 match points. Uzbekistan, India 2, India, USA, Germany and Kazakhstan are in a tie for the second place, with 12 match points each. India’s women’s team is the only one remaining with the perfect score and all 7 won matches. India has 14 match points and a 2-match-point advantage over Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia who tie for the second place.
