Chess Olympiad 2022 | Open section LIVE

The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 takes place from July 28th to August 10th in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The hosting country of the event was changed twice before India took the role of the Olympiad host for the first time ever. (the developing story can be found here)

1st International Tournament of Thessaloniki 2022

The 1st International tournament of Thessaloniki will be held from 3rd to 10th August in the Porto Palace Hotel & Conference Center. The event will be played in three rating groups: Open A (for players rated 1900+), Open B (for players rated 1200-1899) and Open C (for players rated U1200).

44th Chess Olympiad 2022 officially opened

The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 was declared officially open at the glorious ceremony which was held today in Tamil Nadu, Chennai. The ceremony gathered local and FIDE authorities, Indian celebrities, chess enthusiasts, and Olympiad participants.

US Chess Open celebrates its 122nd anniversary

The 122nd edition of the US Chess Open will take place from July 30 to August 7 at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa Rancho Mirage, California. The event is open to all chess players, regardless on their rating or title. The tournament will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control 100 minutes for 30 moves, plus 30 minutes till the end of the game, plus 30 seconds increment for each move, starting from the move one. 

Chess Olympiad Relay Torch has arrived at the venue

The first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay took place on the 19th of June at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi lit the Flame and handed it over to 15th World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand. The Torch traveled through the country to 75 cities, celebrating the 75th Year of the country’s Independence and India’s 1st ever Chess Olympiad, finally arriving at the Chess Olympiad venue in Mahabalipuram.

Ding Liren vs Nepomniachtchi 2023 – possible replacements

With the World Champion Magnus Carlsen decision not to defend his title , the 2023 FIDE World Championship is entering in a backup mode. Ding Lieren, who was the replacement of Sergey Karjakin for the Candidates Chess 2022, will now replace Magnus Carlsen and face the winner of the Candidates Ian Nepomniachtchi. The match is scheduled for April 2023.

Filatov: “Half of the FIDE World Championship match may take place in Russia”

On 20 July, the International Chess Day, the Central Chess Club M. Botvinnik hosted a solemn ceremony of the “CFR Golden Badge” winners awarding. CFR President Andrey Filatov and CFR Executive Director Mark Gluhovsky welcomed the guests and awarded the Golden badge to Alexander Bakh, Galina Dvorkovich, Igor  Zaitsev, Alexander Kostiev, Evgeni Vasiukov (posthumously), and Evgeny Sveshnikov (posthumously).
