FIDE Electoral Commission confirms four valid Presidential ticket candidacies

The FIDE Congress will be held in Chennai, India between 31 July 2022 and 09 August 2022 as part of the Chess Olympiad 2022 (see all Olympiad news here). Part of it is the FIDE General Assembly, where on the agenda are the FIDE elections.

Bachar Kouatly is running for FIDE President

Breaking: The Deputy and the Vice President of current FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich are running against him in the upcoming FIDE Elections that will take place during the Chess Olympiad 2022. The French Grandmaster and current FIDE Deputy President Bachar Kouatly is running for FIDE President, with current FIDE Vice Ian Wilkinson as his candidate for Deputy.

Alireza Firouzja – The Future’s Best?

19-year-old Alireza Firouzja is an Iranian-French grandmaster who holds the No3 position in the FIDE world chess rankings since May this year. With a peak rating of 2804, Firouzja was the youngest chess player ever to cross 2800, beating the previous record set by Magnus Carlsen.

Georgios Makropoulos returning to chess politics as a candidate for FIDE Vice President

The 2018 Candidate for FIDE President Georgios Makropoulos returns to chess politics, this time as a candidate for the FIDE Vice President.

The Greek Chess Federation Board met on Saturday, 4th of June, and among other decisions related to the work of the Federation, announced the support of Makroupoulos’s candidacy for the position of FIDE Vice President.

Zimbabwe Chess Federation announced the composition of Open and Women’s National Teams for the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 which starts in less than 50 days in Chennai.

NSCF/ICC present Chess Service Awards

On Thursday, May 19, the National Scholastic Chess Foundation based in New York, held its first-ever awards dinner at the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge. Presented in partnership with ICC, the 2022 Chess Service Awards honored four women who have made a lifetime contribution to growing scholastic chess. Keeping with the FIDE Year of the Woman in Chess theme was almost accidental when selecting the honorees.

England’s National Chess Library with 7000 Books settled in Leicester

England’s National Chess Library is made up of around 7,000 books from a number of collections left to the BCF, including Harry Golombek’ s personal collection, which forms the core of the library. The library was housed in Hastings, then the ECF Offices in Battle and was recently transferred to safe keeping within the Kimberlin Library at De Montfort University in Leicester in June 2021.
