GM Vasif Durarbayli joins Azerbaijan Olympic Team after 16 years #TweetOftheDay

The 2021 Azerbaijan Chess Champion GM Vasif Durarbayli made it to the Azerbaijan National Team after 16 years of a “short break”. Durarbayli debuted at the 37th Chess Olympiad which took place in 2006 in Turin, Italy. He was the reserve player (6th board) and scored 1 point in three games.

The US Chess Federation confirmed the composition of the National Open team a day after Wesley So revealed the squad in the interview at the Norway Chess 2022 and announced who will compose the Women’s Team in the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai.

Team Netherlands set for 44th Chess Olympiad 2022

The Dutch Open National team is set for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai. The team with an average rating of 2665 will be led by world number nine – Anish Giri, who has represented the Netherlands in five Chess Olympiads (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018).

Anand maintains sole leadership at Norway Chess 2022

The Indian chess legend Vishy Anand continues with amazing play in the 2022 Norway Chess. After two straight-forward victories in the first two rounds, Anand today defeated Wang Hao in Armaggedon to maintain the sole leadership with 7.5 points. With a plus of 9.6 rating points, Vishy came back in the top 10 of the live world rating list.

The German Chess Federation decided to show its logo in rainbow colors during June, aiming to set a sign of acceptance of queer chess players. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBTQ+ Pride Month) is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) Americans.
