TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2022 LIVE

The 27th edition of the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament takes place from 3-9 May at the Malmo Live conference centre in Malmo, Sweden.

Eight players play the seven rounds robin round tournament and the battlefield is led by GM Jorden van Foreest. The participants list:

FIDE World Youth and Cadet Rapid & Blitz Champions crowned in Rhodes

The 4th FIDE World Cadet U8, U10, U12 & the FIDE World Youth U14, U16, U18 Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships concluded today in Rhodes, Greece.

More than 300 players from 40 countries participated in the event and the new world champions are:

Puerto Rico Women’s Championship 2022 concluded

The Puerto Rico Women’s Chess Championship 2022 took place from April 29 – May 1 at the University of Puerto Rico.

FM Danitza Vázquez Maccarini emerged as the winner of the five-round Swiss tournament that brought together nine participants.

India teams for Chess Olympiad 2022 announced

Three months before the start of the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022, the compositions of Indian teams have been announced. Two teams in each Open and Women’s section will represent India in Chennai from July 28 to August 10.

US Middle School Champions crowned

The 501(c)3 US Chess Federation’s 2022 National Middle School (K-8) Championship took place from April 28-May 1, 2022 at the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Resort in Grapevine, Texas. A total of 931 players from 35 states competed. This tournament was formerly known as the National Junior High School (K-9) Championship.

The individual K-8 Co-Champions are (listed in tiebreak order):

GM Elshan Moradiabadi triumphs at ALTO tournament in Charlotte

Charlotte Chess Center in North Carolina organized three ALTO (At Least Twenty-One) chess tournaments played in 5 rounds from April 29 – May 1 with a total prize fund of 5.500$.

The main tournament gathered 25 players including 3 grandmasters, while the U1800 and U1400 tournaments brought together more than 80 players.

Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson defends the title of Icelandic Champion

The Icelandic Chess Championship 2022 took place from April 21 – May 1 in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Ten players competed in 9 round robin rounds of the Championship and Hjorvar Steinn Gretarsson defended the 2021 champion’s title. The Winner was known with a round to spare and the last round determined only the medalists.

90 years difference between two Chess opponents #TweetOftheDay

The Spanish Chess Club “V Centenario San Sebastián de los Reyes” posted today about an extraordinary chess game played in Madrid between a 100-year-old gentleman and a 10-year-old youngster. A 90 years age difference on the chess board showed the beauty of the game.

The experience had prevailed as Mr. Manuel Alvarez Escudero won the game against his younger colleague.

Mariano Ortega Amarelle clinches Cabo Verde Chess Open

The Cabo Verde Chess Open 2022 took place from 22-30 April in Mindelo – S. Vicente located in the island country of the central Atlantic Ocean – Cabo Verde.

The event gathered 34 players from 10 countries, and after 9 rounds played in swiss system Mariano Ortega Amaralle won the event. Yago De Moura Santiago had the same score of 7 points and the two players tied for the first place, but tiebreak criteria was in favor of Ortega who clinched the title.
