Grand Chess Tour 2022 Romania – participants announced

The Grand Chess Tour (GCT) has confirmed the seven wildcard players for the Grand Chess Tour Chess Classic Romania and the Grand Chess Tour Rapid & Blitz Poland. The first leg of the GCT, the Chess Classic Romania will include all nine full tour players and one wildcard player, Romanian Grandmaster Bogdan-Daniel Deac. The Superbet Chess Classic Romania is sponsored by Superbet Foundation, One United and First Bank and features a 10 player round-robin battle for a total of $350,000 in prize money.

Praggnanandhaa wins Reykjavik Chess 2022

An eventful Kvika Reykjavik Open came to an end yesterday as 245 players from 39 countries played their final moves of the event. The Indian sensation Praggnanandhaa was the soler winner clocking in with an impressive 7½ pionts in the 9 rounds.

Matthias Bluebaum is the winner of EICC 2022

Matthias Bluebaum is the winner of the European Individual Chess Championship 2022 that concluded in Terme Catez, Slovenia. After 11 played rounds with more than 300 participants, German Grandmaster Matthias Bluebaum (GER, 2642) won the Championship scoring 8 points. Bluebaum maintained the leadership from the 5th round and in the end tied for the first place with Sargissian Gabrial (ARM, 2681) who had the same score. Additional criteria decided that Bluebaum takes gold and Sargissian won silver medal.

Romanian Grand Prix Super Chess Rapid 2022

The Romanian Grand Prix Super Chess Rapid 2022 aka GP Romania is going to start this April 30 at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest. GP Romania 2022 will consist of 5 open qualifying tournaments – three tournaments will consist in classic chess and two in rapid chess – and a grand final – consisting of a closed tournament in which the best Romanians will participate.

TCEC S22 Superfinal starts today

The Superfinal for the highest title in computer chess starts today at 17:00 UTC and you can follow it live at the official site and TCEC Twitch TV. The TCEC S22 Superfinal will be 100 games match between the reigning champion Stockfish and the challenger KomodoDragon. The opening book is created by Jeroen Noomen and GM Matthew Saddler.

Wesley So is the winner of Berlin Chess Grand Prix 2022

The last battle of the entire 2022 FIDE Grand Prix series organised by World Chess has finished on the 4th of April. In the final match tiebreaker, Wesley So outplayed Hikaru Nakamura by a score of 1½:½ and won the third leg of the Grand Prix in Berlin. The tournament winner and the runner-up looked happy at the closing ceremony as both of them could celebrate the success in the tournament. Despite the result of the final match, Hikaru Nakamura qualified for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2022 and became the overall winner of FIDE Grand Prix Series 2022.

Sergey Karjakin is developing his own online chess platform

Russian Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin is developing his own online chess platform. In his telegram channel, he shared, “Together with the largest Russian IT company, I am participating in the development of a chess portal! We have an excellent symbiosis between professional programmers and chess players.” Karjakin added that the portal aims to hold online competitions and will have artificial intelligence to detect cheating.
