FIDE Grand Prix final goes to tiebreaks

Hikaru Nakamura and Welsey So drew their second game in the final match of the third stage of the FIDE Grand Prix organised by World Chess. The winner of the event will be determined tomorrow in a tiebreaker. Hikaru Nakamura picked White for the first rapid game against Wesley So during the drawing of lots procedure. It was a short draw in the Berlin Variation of the Ruy Lopez today, where both players deviated from the playable lines and quickly entered a famous drawish variation.

Ding Liren needs to paly a total of 26 classical games to qualify for the Candidates 2022. After Nakamura and Rapport qualified from the Grand Prix, only one spot remains open – that of Sergey Karjakin, who was banned by FIDE for 6 months.

After a long theoretical debate, Wesley So and Hikaru Nakamura drew the first game in the final of the third leg of the FIDE Grand Prix Series organized by World Chess. Hikaru Nakamura will have white pieces in the second game of the mini-match.

Gujarat Chess Open 2022 with 377 players

The 3rd edition of the Gujarat International GrandMaster Chess Open is going to take place March 31 – April 7 in Karnavati Club, S.G.Highway, Ahmedabad. A total of 377 players of which 60 titled are going to participate. Top seeded are GM Neuris Delgado Ramirez, GM Boris Savchenko, GM Stany, and GM Bharathakoti Harsha.

Wesley So and Mamedyarov advance to FIDE Grand Prix semifinals

Wesley So defeated Sam Shankland in the rapid tiebreak games by a score of 1½:½ to reach the semifinals of the third stage of the FIDE Grand Prix Series organised by World Chess in Berlin. The tiebreak games were played with the quicker time control of 15 minutes per game with an increment of 10 seconds per move starting from the first move. In the second tiebreak match, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov won the first game against Vincent Keymer, but the 16-years-old local hero managed to win on demand and levelled the score.
