Richard Rapport qualifies for the final of the FIDE Grand Prix Belgrade 2022

The second round of FIDE Grand Prix Belgrade semifinals saw two draws. After yesterday’s win in round 1, Hungarian Richard Rapport secured a place in the finals by holding Maxime Vachier-Lagrave to a draw in a very exciting game that saw lots twists and turns.

Richard Rapport defeats Maxime-Vachier-Lagrave in FIDE Chess Grand Prix Belgrade 2022

The first round of the semi-finals of the second leg of the Grand Prix, which followed the qualification phase, saw one decisive result and one draw.

Richard Rapport defeated Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Before this game, the two had played eight classical games, five of which were drawn and three were won by the Frenchman. Despite the head-to-head record favouring Vachier-Lagrave, every game is a story of its own, and this one did not have a happy ending for MVL.

European Individual Chess 2022

The European Individual Chess Championship 2022 will take place between 26 March and 7 April at Terme Čatež near Brežice in Slovenia. The event is organized by the Chess Federation of Slovenia under the auspices of the European Chess Union (ECU). The official host of the championship is Hotel Spa; accommodation is also available in other hotels, which are part of the Terme Čatež complex.

Prague Chess Festival 2022 – participants and information

The Prague Chess Festival 2022 will take place 7-17 June. It will consist of a Masters 10 player round robin event, Challengers and Futures tournaments. The Masters have already confirmed three top players – GM David Navara, GM Le Quang Liem and GM Salem Saleh

American Chess Cup 2022 – participants

America’s best chess players will return to the Saint Louis Chess Club to battle over the board from April 18 – April 29, 2022 in a brand new and exciting tournament, the American Cup.  With $300,000 in prize money up for grabs, the competitors will prove their mettle under mounting pressure in this double-elimination knockout tournament. This format promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats as they follow their favorites to victory. 

GM Shant Sargsyan wins Lichess titled arena

The March Lichess Blitz Titled Arena was won by GM Shant Sargsyan, a young Armenian super GM who is a former World U16 champion. In what was one of the closest Titled Arenas ever, Sargsyan was only really able to clinch the tournament in the final few minutes as he won two games back-to-back. Two other young and rising stars, GM Mahammad Muradli and Aravindh Chithambaram Veerappan, finished in second and third place, respectively. The anonymous GM BMWHero came in fourth while GM Vahap Sanal took fifth place.

American Chess Cup 2022 LIVE

For the first time, the Saint Louis Chess Club will host The American Cup 2022, highlighting an exciting and unique double elimination format. This new format and tournament will bring world class chess masters to America’s chess capital to compete in a fierce do-or-die struggle for $300,000 total in prize money.
