The American Chess Cup 2022

For the first time, the Saint Louis Chess Club will host The American Cup 2022, highlighting an exciting and unique double elimination format. This new format and tournament will bring world class chess masters to America’s chess capital to compete in a fierce do-or-die struggle for $300,000 total in prize money. With a double elimination format, fans can expect The American Cup to have a combination of exciting chess play, stunning upsets, and epic comebacks.  

FIDE Grand Prix Belgrade: Round 6

The final – sixth round – of the group stage of the Grand Prix finished in Belgrade, with four clear winners progressing to the semi-finals.

Split Chess Open 2022

The Split Chess Open is going to take place 16-24 July 2022 in Hotel Zagreb. It will be a 9 rounds Swiss with a prize fund of 8500 eur. Two additional blitz and rapid events add an extra 1500 eur to the prize fund.

Computer chess continues to make headlines. This time Elon Musk commented on Massimo Rainmakers1973 post on Shannon’s number, “Chess is a simple game. Understandable when all we had to play with were squirrels and rocks, but now we have computers”

The tweet of Elon Musk coincides with the start on the Premier Division of the Top Chess Engine Championship.

MPL 58th Senior National Chess Championship 2022 heading for a photo finish

Tamil Nadu Grandmaster D Gukesh defeated former national champion Abhijeet Gupta of the PSPB in the penultimate round to catch up with overnight sole leader second seed Arjun Erigaisi of Telangana, which paved the way for a photo finish at the 58th edition of Senior National Chess Championship sponsored by MPL Sports Foundation here at Ganges Club, Kanpur on Wednesday.

Gian Carlo Arvelo and Raydily Rosario Almánzar are new chess champions of the Dominican Republic. The Open and Women’s Championships, Swiss tournaments with classical time control, were held from February 18 to March 06 (with a long break from February 20-25 in the open competition). 

Magnus Carlsen wins Airthings Masters 2022

Magnus Carlsen has won the first event of the 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, the Airthings Masters, after overcoming Ian Nepomniachtchi with a classy display today.

The World Champion was hugely-impressive in the 16-player online super-tournament knockout stages having struggled at times during the round-robin.

Salinas Herrera and Gomez Barrera win Chilean Chess Championship 2022

After one-year hiatus caused by the pandemic situation, the Chilean Chess Federation held National Championships 2022 from February 18-27 (open and women). Both tournaments were OTB 12-player round-robins with classical time control.

The 2021 FIDE World Chess Cup reached the 5th round. Only 16 players emerged in the Open event and 8 players in the Women’s section.

The first games of the 5th round ended in a peaceful manner. Only one game in the Open section and one game in the Women’s section ended with decisive results.
