The European Youth Chess Championship 2025 – Open U16 will take place from September 29 to October 07 in Budva, Montenegro. This tournament is separated into 12 sections – U18, U16, U14, U12, U10, U08, Girls U18, Girls U16, Girls U14, Girls U12, Girls U10, and Girls U08. All categories are a 9-round Swiss system tournament with a time control of 90 min + 30 sec/move.

Xeniya Balabayeva is World Junior Girls Rapid Champion

Xeniya Balabayeva (Kazakhstan) is the winner of the girls section of the World Junior Rapid Championship. Xeniya Balabayeva collected 7,5/9 points, half a point ahead of competition. The silver medal is for Afruza Khamdamova (Uzbekistan), bronze is for Varvara Poliakova (FID). Replay all games here

This is a second fast-paced chess world title for Xeniya Balabayeva, after she won the World Junior Blitz Chess Championship is 2023.

Mukhammadzokhid Suyarov is World Junior Rapid Champion

Mukhammadzokhid Suyarov (Uzbekistan) is the winner of the World Junior Rapid Championship 2025. Mukhammadzokhid won the World Junior Rapid Champion title with 7,5/9, half a point ahead of a group of four players.

The silver medal is again for Uzbekistan, as Mukhiddin Madaminov had the best tiebreak score in the chasing pack. The bronze is for Denis Lazavik (Belarus).

Edeleny Chess Meeting 2025 LIVE
