FIDE World Chess Team Championships – Round 1

Round 1 of FIDE World Chess Team Championships was played on June 17 in Khanty-Mansiysk.

The first symbolic move in the starting round of the Women’s Team Championship was made on Alexandra Kosteniuk’s behalf by the Deputy Governor of Ugra Mr. Vsevolod Koltsov.

A similar “pawn face-off” in the game between Ian Nepomniachtchi and the Egyptian chess player Hesham Abdelrahman was jointly made by President of Ugra Chess Federation Vasily Filipenko and FIDE Vice-President Javier Ochoa.

Levon Aronian wins Altibox Norway Chess

Levon Aronian emerged winner of Altibox Norway Chess 2017 which was held in Stavagner, Norway from 5th-17th June.

Aronian showed that he is in a great form having already won two tournaments this year (Grenke Chess Classic and now Altibox Norway Chess) and crossing again the 2800 line.

Vladimir Putin welcomes the participants of FIDE World Team Chess Championships

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to the participants of the FIDE World Team Chess Championships which is ongoing in Khanty-Mansiysk.

The message reads, in part:

FIDE World Team Chess Championships – Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony for FIDE Open and Women’s World Team Chess Championships took place in the capital of Ugra. For the first time in the history of chess, both events will be held at the same time and in the same place from June 16 to June 27, 2017.

Grand opening ceremony was staged in the CTC “Ugra-Classic” that is already familiar to many chessplayers.

Philadelphia International 2017

The 11th Philadelphia International will be held from June 24-29, 2017, at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The event will be a single section with 9-rounds of Swiss system and the time control 40/2, SD/30 d10. FIDE title norms are possible.

The total prize fund is $10,000 guaranteed: $3000-1500-1000-700-600-500-400-300-200, top FIDE under 2300 or unrated $1200-600.

European School Chess Championship 2017 – Round 5

The European School Chess Championship 2017 has started on 10th June in Budva, Montenegro.

The short opening ceremony was held just before the start of the first round where the speech took the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Dr. Srdjan Darmanovic who declared the Championship opened.

2017 World Team Chess Championship (Women) LIVE!

The FIDE Women’s World Team Championship will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk on June 16-27. Teams of Georgia, China, Poland, Ukraine, Egypt, Russia, India, USA and Vietnam will compete at the Women’s World Team Championship. Recently a wildcard team for women’s tournament was announced: Azerbaijan.

World Team Chess Championship 2017 LIVE!

FIDE World Team Championship 2017 and the FIDE Women’s World Team Championship will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk on June 16-27.

10 teams will compete in each Championship. They are the previous event’s World Chess Team Champion, the three highest-placed teams in the FIDE Olympiad prior to the event, the four Continental Champions, a team from the organizing federation and a team nominated by FIDE President.

Ivanchuk – Navara 2017 LIVE!

Vassily Ivanchuk and David Navara will play a 12 game rapid match to be held as part of the ČEZ Chess Trophy 2017. The match will take place 15-17 June. The time control is 15 minutes for all moves with a 10-second increment from move 1. Four games are played each day. The tournament will be live daily on Chessdom.com and also on the ChessArena android application for mobile phones
