International Women’s Day: Blondes defeat Brunettes in a friendly match

On the eve of the International Women’s Day, a traditional match between “Blondes” and “Brunettes” took place in the Moscow restaurant “Carlson”.

White Rook 2017 in Dagomys

Russian Chess Federation has the honour to invite young and ambitious players from all over the world to take part in the final stage of prestigious chess competition among secondary school teams Belaya Ladya, also known as White Rook, which will be held in Hotel Dagomys 4* (Sochi, Krasnodar Region) on June 1-9, 2017.

Belaya Ladya national school team tournament was launched in 1969 in the Soviet Union. Some of the famous Russian players started their career playing in Belaya Ladya.

Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2017

Abu Dhabi Chess Festival Committee has the honor of inviting the players to take part in a distinguished chess annual event, which consists of numerous FIDE registered tournaments. It will be held in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the UAE from 13th until 23rd of August, 2017.

Abu Dhabi Chess & Culture Club is organizing the festival under the Patronage of H.H Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sport Council.

European Corporate Chess Championship 2017

The 1st European Corporate Chess Championship 2017 will take place in the Town Hall of Honour of the City of Asnières, Paris, France, 24–25 November 2017.

The tournament will be played as a Swiss Open in 9 rounds, with time control 15 minutes per game + 3 seconds per move starting from move 1.

Each team shall be composed of 4 players + 1 substitute player. The team can’t have more than one player over 2400 ELO but should have at least one player below 2000 ELO.

Vladimir Fedoseev wins Aeroflot Open 2017

The 15th Aeroflot Open took place from 21st February to 1st March at the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow, Russia. The main event of the festival with 140.000 EUR in prizes attracted 98 players from 28 countries.

Grandmaster Vladimir Fedoseev took a clear first place with 7 points in 9 rounds. He qualified to participate in the Dortmund supertournament in July 13-24. Grandmasters Evgeniy Najer, Nikita Vitiugov (both Russia), and Vladislav Kovalev (Belarus) tied for 2nd-4th places.

Sharjah Grand Prix: Alexander Grischuk takes the winner’s trophy

The ninth and final round of the FIDE World Chess Sharjah Grand Prix was played today at the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Alexander Grischuk played a relatively short draw, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov used the opportunity to defeat Hou Yifan and join them on the shared first place.

The final ranking was decided by the first tie-break criteria – mutual result. Grischuk scored best due to yesterday’s win against Mamedyarov and is awarded the winner’s trophy. Vachier-Lagrave is second and Mamedyarov is third.

Sharjah Grand Prix: Mamedyarov wins to catch Vachier-Lagrave

The fourth round of the FIDE World Chess Sharjah Grand Prix was played today at the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club.

Shakhriyar Mamedyarov defeated Michael Adams in an aggressive display of the Queen’s Gambit Exchange variation. White got better out of the opening, but black has put up an inspired defence. Only in the time trouble Adams erred by missing 35…b4 and white duly converted the advantage.

Sharjah Grand Prix: Nakamura wins, Vachier-Lagrave in lead

The third round of the FIDE World Chess Sharjah Grand Prix was played today at the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club.

The top two finishers in the four-tournament series, which will also include competitions in Moscow, Geneva and Palma de Mallorca, Spain, will qualify for the Candidates tournament next year to select a challenger for the World Championship. There are 24 players in the competitions, with each playing three of the four tournaments.

Aeroflot Open 2017

Aeroflot Open is set to take place from 21st February to 1st March at the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow, Russia.

One of the richest open tournaments will offer 140,000 EUR in prizes.

Traditionally, the event consists of three sections: Open A, Open B and Open C, and a blitz tournament.

The prize fund allocated for Open A is 65,000 EUR, with 18,000 EUR reserved for the winner.
