The 19th Dubai Open Chess Tournament–Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup got off to an explosive start with Monday’s actioned-packed, first-round games producing two stunning upsets at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.

It is well known that differences emerged at the last meeting of the Presidential Board held in Athens in March.

In the final round of the Sharjah Open Chess Championship all top players drew their respective games. The two leaders Wang Hao and Yury Kryvoruchko made a solid draw against each other, while both Adhiban and Kravtsiv had more complicated games against Radoslaw Wojtaszek and Arkadij Naiditsch, but eventually all finished peacefully as well.

The Cuban Chess Federation is going to organize a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Varadero, Matanzas, Cuba, from 29 May to 4 June 2017, under the auspices of FIDE.

The Seminar will be in Hotel Barceló Arenas Blancas, in Varadero.

For the ninth consecutive year, the nation’s top 24 chess players will gather in Saint Louis to compete for the titles of U.S. Champion and U.S. Women’s Champion, which will be held simultaneously at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL) from March 28 through April 10.

The 2017 U.S. Women’s Championship field will feature U.S. Women’s reigning champion IM Nazi Paikidze and seven-time U.S. Women’s Champion GM Irina Krush, who will seek to win back the title. The Women’s Championship will once again see young talents like 15-year-old WIM Jennifer Yu and 13-year-old Carissa Yip.

The College Chess Final Four event was held on 25-26th March at the Marshall Chess Club in New York.

Webster University scored 8 points (two match wins, one tie) to claim its fifth consecutive President’s Cup.

Texas Tech is second with 6,5 points, St. Louis University third with 5 points and UT Dallas is third with 4,5 points.
