40th Eastern Open in Bethesda, Maryland

The 40th Annual Eastern Open is set to take place on 26-29th December at the Doubletree Hotel in Bethesda, Maryland.

The event will be played over seven rounds of Swiss system and in six sections: Open, U2200, U1900, U1700, U1500 and U1300.

The prize fund is $17,500, with Open section prizes guaranteed and remaining prizes based on 220 paid entries.

Grischuk triumphs for the third time as champion with Russia

Danyyil Dvirnyy Becomes Italian Champion

Grandmaster-elect Danyyil Dvirnyy convincingly won the 73rd Italian Chess Championship by finishing the event with 8,0/11 points, a full point ahead of the last-year champion GM Alberto David and GM Sabino Brunello.

The Championship was held from 21st November to 2nd December at the Hotel Villa Maria Regina, via della Camilluccia 687, in Rome. Earlier Rome hosted the prestigious event 66(!) years ago.

Hungarian Chess Championship 2013 LIVE!

The Hungarian Chess Championship 2013 is taking place 2-11 December in Gyula. It is a ten player round robin, rounds starting daily at 15:00 CET.

Participants are Berkes Ferenc 2677, Banusz Tamas 2598, Gonda Laszlo 2552, Horvath Csaba 2537, Medvegy Zoltan 2537, Horvath Adam 2531, Pap Gyula 2522, Toth Ervin 2477, Czebe Attila 2451, and Nagy Gabor 2404.

Navalmoral de la Mata Open 2013

The 19th International Open Tournament “Villa de Navalmoral” is taking place on 5-8th December at the hotel Moya in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres), Spain.

The tournament will be played over 7 rounds of Swiss system. 90 players from 16 countries are participating, including 14 Grandmasters.

The total prize fund is 12,300 EUR, with 3000 EUR dedicated for the winner.

London Chess Classic Super Sixteen Draw

The draw for the group stages of the London Chess Classic took place on Wednesday 4th December at Ravenscroft Primary School in Newham.

Pupils at the school conducted the draw in the presence of Malcolm Pein and deputy arbiter David Sedgwick.

The players were divided into four pools on the basis of their FIDE Rapidplay ratings, using Standard play ratings for players without Rapidplay Ratings.

15th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships

The 15th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships are scheduled to take place on 3-12th June, 2014, at the Conrad Macao, Cotai Central in Macau.

Standard Chess: Each player has 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
Rapid Chess: Each player has 15 + 10 seconds increment.
Blitz Chess: Each player has 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.

Kolkata Open 2013

The International Grandmasters Chess Tournament is taking place on 5-14th December at the historic Town Hall in Kolkata, India.

The tournament is open for the players rated above 1900 and will be completed over 10 rounds of Swiss system.

The event is organized by the Allsports Management and Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy, under the aegis of FIDE, AICF and Bengal Chess Association.

The prize fund is 12,000 EUR.
