FIDE Women Grand Prix – Goryachkina takes the lead in a day of decisive games

A day of high-stakes and thrilling victories in New Delhi, with three wins for White and one for Black. Kateryna Lagno, Zhu Jiner, Polina Shuvalova, and Aleksandra Goryachkina dominated the round

Following three rounds of the Women’s Grand Prix where all games ended in a draw, round four saw intense action on the boards in the third leg. Three out of four games were dramatic from the start but all four ended in victories.

With a second consecutive victory, Bibisara Assaubayeva is in the lead after three rounds of the Women’s Grand Prix

Assaubayeva had a lucky break after Nino Batsiashvili made a blunder in an even position and lost. Assaubayeva now shares first place with Alexandra Goryachkina who is also on two points, but who had a free point today as she wasn’t playing. The two will be facing each other in the fourth round.

The Nepo – Ding match will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from April 7 to May 1, at the elegant St. Regis Astana hotel. Volokitin wins the UK vs Ukraine Solidarity Match

The 2004, 2015, and 2021 Ukraine Champion Andriy Volokitin is the winner of the UK vs Ukraine Solidarity match. The 8-game match took place in London between English no. 1 Mickey Adams and 3-times Ukrainian Champion Andriy Volokitin. The match is organized by Chess in Schools and Communities and will be held half in the Ukrainian Embassy and half in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The prize fund is $45,000.

Bibisara Assaubayeva claims victory over local star Vaishali Rameshbabu, in the first decisive game played in New Delhi. The remaining three games ended in a draw

FIDE Women Candidates – round 1 report

All four games played in the first round of the Women’s Grand Prix in New Delhi ended with a draw. IM Vaishali R won on default after Elisabeth Paehtz decided to withdraw from the tournament.

Bharat Singh Chauhan, Chairman of FIDE’s Advisory Board and Secretary of the All India Chess Federation, made the ceremonial first move in the game between Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli in the inaugural round of the New Delhi Women’s Grand Prix.
