Reykjavik Open 2023 – round 1 report

The International Reykjavik Open Chess Tournament, sponsored by Kvika and Brim, has begun at Harpa conference center at the heart of Reykjavik, Iceland. The event started with a record breaking participation as 400+ players entered the legendary playing hall.

After 11 thrilling rounds at the European Women’s Chess Championship 2023 two players emerged on the top tying for the first place with 8.5 points, each: IM Meri Arabidze (GEO, 2433) and IM Oliwia Kiolbasa (POL, 2406). They went the last round with equal points.

Karjakin gets pressed into saying that Carlsen is a “fascist” – new controversial interview

This March 28th Sergey Karjakin gave a new controversial interview. For Russia-1 TV and the pro-Kremlin journalist Korchevnikov. Karjakin expressed his opinion, among other things, on the 6 months FIDE ban, his compatriot Ian Nepomniachtchi, and the current World Champion Magnus Carlsen.

Grand Chess Tour 2023 with a dream lineup

The Grand Chess Tour (GCT), a circuit of international events, each demonstrating the highest level of organization for the world’s best players, will return again in 2023. Tour participants will compete for a total prize fund of $1.4 million over the course of the 2023 season. The prize money for each of the two classical tournaments will be $350,000 and $175,000 per event for rapid and blitz. In addition, a bonus prize fund totaling $175,000 will be awarded to the top three overall tour finishers. 

Peter Heine Nielsen: Karjakin interview should lead to an immediate ban

Last year the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission (EDC) reached a verdict on the case 2/2022, relating to public statements by Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin (FIDE ID 14109603). It led to a 6 months ban, that prevented Karjakin from playing Candidates Chess 2022.

VII Torneo Internacional de Ajedrez Semana Santa en La Nucia 2023 – LIVE

The VII Torneo Internacional de Ajedrez Semana Santa en La Nucia will take place from 5th to 10th April 2023 in Alicante, La Nucia in Spain. The event will be played in swiss system, 9 rounds, with the time control of 90 minutes for the whole game plus 30 seconds increment for each move, starting from the move one. The total prize fund of the event is 17.000 EUR, with 3.500 EUR reserved for the Winner. Almost 300 players already registered for the tournament, leaded by GM Jules Moussard, GM Eduardo Iturrizaga Bonelli, GM Maksim Chigaev, GM Daniil Yuffa, GM Robert Hovhannisyan, etc.

BASEL EASTER Festival 2023

The BASEL EASTER Festival 2023 – MASTER will take place from 06-10 April 2023 in Basel, Switzerland. The Master section of the tournament is only for players rated 2050 or higher. It will be 9-round Swiss system tournament with time control 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. This tournament has total prize fund of 5000 CHF.

Yifan Hou returns to competitive chess this April

The chess world will see Yifan Hou compete once more OTB. She will play in the strong rapid and blitz Satty Zhuldyz Chess Festival 2023 which will take place in Astana, April 24-25.

Satty Zhuldyz Chess Festival 2023 is a round robin tournament with Levon Aronian, Yifan Hou, Arjun Erigaisi, Alexander Grischuk, Vladimir Kramnik, Vincent Keymer, Haik Martirosyan, Boris Gelfand, Javokhir Sindarov, Jakhongir Vakhidov, Kateryna Lagno, and Bibisara Assaubayeva.

Satty Zhuldyz Chess Festival 2023 LIVE

Satty Zhuldyz Chess Festival 2023 is a round robin tournament with Levon Aronian, Yifan Hou, Arjun Erigaisi, Alexander Grischuk, Vladimir Kramnik, Vincent Keymer, Haik Martirosyan, Boris Gelfand, Javokhir Sindarov, Jakhongir Vakhidov, Kateryna Lagno, and Bibisara Assaubayeva.

Javokhir Sindarov wins Rustam Kasimdzhanov Cup 2023

The 1st International Chess Tournament “Rustam Kasimdzhanov Cup” was played in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 28th to 29th March 2023. It was a round robin with 10 players, including Alexander Grischuk, Parham Maghsoodloo, Shamsiddin Vokhidov, Nordibek Abdusattorov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Javokhir Sindarov, Jakhongir Vakhidov, Rustam Kasimdzhanov, Nordibek Yakubboev, and Jorden Van Foreest.
