The 18th Karpov Poikovsky Tournament is set to take place from 18-27th April at the Sports School “Neptune” in Poikovsky, Nefteyugansk Ugra, Russia. The round robin tournament with ten players has the average elo of 2679.

The winner of 2015 and 2016 is also on top in 2017 again – on the final day, the American Hikaru Nakamura again showed his outstanding class and won the Blitz tournament half a point ahead of the Indian Viswanathan Anand and a full point ahead of Ian Nepomniachtchi, who had shared first place with Naka after the Classical.

The 44th Torneo Internacional de Ajedrez de La Roda was organized by the Club Polideportivo de La Roda from 12-16th April, 2017 at La Caja Blanca in La Roda, Albacete, Spain.

International Masters Jose Angel Guerra Mendez (Cuba) and Juan Luis Ramiro Ovejero (Spain) excelled in the field of 263 players with 12 Grandmasters to share the first place with 7,5/9 points each. Guerra Mendez also earned a GM norm.

The 63rd Open Chess Championship of Mexico was held from 11-16th April at the Hotel Radisson Poliforum, León, Guanajuato.

More than 1300 players competed in the various age and elo sections. The main open event had 151 participants.

Grandmaster Emilio Cordova from Peru emerged clear winner with 7,5/9 points.

The 35th International Metz Open was held from 8-14th April at the Complexe Sportif St Symphorien in Metz, France.

Russian Grandmaster Vyacheslav Ikonnikov emerged clear winner ahead of Sergey Fedorchuk and Namig Guliyev.

73 participants competed in the 9-round Swiss tournament, organized by the chess club Metz Alekhine. The total prize fund was 10,000 EUR, with 3000 EUR reserved for the winner.

Four rounds have been already played at the 18th European Individual Women’s Chess Championship 2017 in Riga and six players are in the lead.

Nana Dzagnidze, the sole leader form the previous round drew her game against Anna Muzychuk, which gave the opportunity for other contestants to catch her lead.

Grenke Chess Classic 2017 is taking place this April with once again strong field. World Champion Magnus Carlsen, who won the last GRENKE Chess Classic in 2015, will again be competing, ready to defend his title.

The Dutch qualifier for the 2017 Dutch Chess Championship is taking place this weekend. It is a double round robin 4 player event with Friso Nijboer, Twan Burg, Koen Leenhouts, and Ruud Janssen. The 2017 French Youth Chess Championship will be held from 16 April to 23 April 2017 at Le Phare gymnasium in Belfort. Around 1,400 young players from all over France are expected to compete. They will each play nine games, players with the most victories will win the title of French chess champion and try to get the qualifying places for the European and World Championships.

Players compete by age categories, poussins and petits-poussins (less than 10 years old) will start on Wednesday the 19th. The youngest players will be only five years old.
