Stavanger out of race for World Championship Match, hoping for World Rapid & Blitz

Stavanger cannot hold the 2018 FIDE World Championship Match because AGON insists that only capital cities are appropriate for such event, Chairman of “Norway Chess” Kjell Madland stated for aftenbladet.no.

However, AGON has proposed and “Norway Chess” is seriously considering the possibility of holding the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships in Stavanger, either in 2017 or 2018.

FIDE World Women’s Championship 2017 – Participants

FIDE is publishing the list of participants of the World Women’s Championship 2017 in Tehran. Participants who need an entry visa to Iran shall contact the local Organising Committee at the email ircfchess@gmail.com to receive the necessary travel information and invitation letter.

FIDE World School Chess Championship 2017

Iasi County Chess Association, Romanian Chess Federation, the City Hall of Iasi, and FIDE have the honor to invite all the FIDE Members Chess Federations and eligible players to take part in the FIDE World School Chess Championship 2017 (open and girls, under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 years old) organized in Iasi, Romania, from 21th April (arrival) to 1st May (departure) 2017.

Asian Youth Chess Championships 2017

The Uzbekistan Chess Federation (UCF), under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) has the honour to invite all Asian national chess federations to participate in the 2017 Asian Youth Chess Championship and Asian Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships, which will be held in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, from 31st March (arrival) till 10th April (departure) 2017.

International Chess Tournament of Forni di Sopra 2017

The 8th International Chess Tournament of Forni di Sopra will take place from 10-17th June, 2017, in Forni di Sopra, part of the Friulian Dolomites Natural Park and one of the jewels of the Italian Alps.

The playing hall is the Palasport of Forni di Sopra. The complex includes swimming pool / gym with large and bright conference rooms no more than 5 minutes walking distance from the center.

1st Sharjah Masters international Chess Championship

The Sharjah Chess & Culture Club is pleased to invite players to participate at the 1st Sharjah Masters international Chess Championship, which will be held at Sharjah Chess & Culture Club from 22nd March to 31st March 2017.

The 9-round Swiss event is open to players rated above 1500 FIDE.

The total prize fund is $60,000. Top prizes are $15,000, $10,000, $7000, $6000, $5000, $4000, $3000 etc

The players rated over 2600 FIDE are eligible for free accommodation.

Basel Chess Festival 2017

The 2017 edition of Basel Chess Festival took place from 2-8th January at Hotel Landgasthof in Basel, Switzerland.

A total of 107 players took part in the 9-round Swiss event. Grandmasters Eltaj Safarli, Bai Jinshi and Christian Bauer shared the first place with 7/0 points each.

Eltaj Safarli took the winner’s trophy on best tiebreak.

Sisters Muzychuk about World Championship in Iran

Former Women’s World Champion Mariya Muzychuk will not play in the World Championship in Iran this February, censor.net.ua reported.

Mariya Muzychuk stated – “it is wrong that the players who refuse to play in Iran and to wear a hijab are simply out of the World Championship cycle.”
