GM Alexander Ivanov takes top prize in Eastern Class Championships

The 25th Annual Eastern Class Championships were held from April 22-24, 2016, at the Host Hotel at Cedar Lake, 366 Main St, Sturbridge, Massachusetts.

The event had 7 sections: Master, Expert, Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E. The playing format was 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10.

The 3rd Lviv Tradition April Chess Tournament 2016 is taking place from April 25-30, at the Hotel Nton, in the splendid city of Lviv, Ukraine.

FIDE Zone 4.3 Championships

The FIDE Zone 4.3 Championships will be happening in Mauritius at the Riu Le Morne Hotel.

The event for the women’s section will be a round robin event starting on 24th of April and finishing on the 1st of May. The Federations represented are Angola, Botswana, Mauritius and South Africa. The top players are WFM Jesse Nikki February (RSA), WIM Anzel Laubscher (RSA) and WIM Francis Onkemetse (BOT)

12th European Chess Solving Championship

The Greek Chess Composition Committee, in co-operation with the Greek Chess Federation, organized the 12th European Chess Solving Championship from 15-17th April at the “Oasis Hotel Apartments” in Glyfada, a cosmopolitan suburb of Athens.

Asian Youth Chess Championships – Winners

The Asian Youth Chess Championships held from 5th Apr to 14 Apr 2016 at the Cultural Central Palace of Mongolian trade Union welcomed more than 470 players from 18 countries.

The competition was organised by the Mongolian Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and World Chess Federation. This year’s edition is one of the strongest Championships so far.

GM Gawain Jones is double champion at the 18th Dubai Open Chess Tournament

England’s Grandmaster (GM) Gawain Jones claimed the Dubai Open Chess Tournament – Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Cup after a masterful performance in Tuesday night’s final round at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club. Jones, who also won the Dubai Open Blitz Cup last Friday, outplayed Russia’s GM Boris Savchenko to finish the tournament undefeated with 7.5 points on six wins and three draws.

GM Miroslav Markovic is 2016 Serbian Chess Champion

The Serbian Individual Chess Championship took place from 11-19th April, 2016, in Pirot. The event was a 10 player round robin with classical time control.

GM Miroslav Markovic is the new champion after concluding the tournament with 7,0/9 points. Markovic was 1998 Yugoslav champion and world top-100 player in 1999, but he hasn’t played much in the recent years.
