European Senior Team Championships 2016 starting today

The European Chess Union is organizing the European Senior Team Championships 2016 from 19th to 27th April at Anthemus Sea Resort, Halkidiki, Greece.

There are two separate championships: category 50+ for players who were born in the year 1966 or earlier, and category 65+ for the players who were born in the year 1951 or earlier. Team rosters are below.

Eastern Class Championships 2016

The 25th Annual Eastern Class Championships will be held from April 22-24, 2016, at the Host Hotel at Cedar Lake, 366 Main St, Sturbridge, Massachusetts.

The event has 7 sections: Master, Expert, Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E. All sections have either a 3-day (April 22-24) or 2-day schedule (April 23-24) to participate in.

The playing format is 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10 (2-day option, rds 1-2 G/60, d10).

GM Boris Savchenko leads 18th Dubai Open Tournament with one round to go

 

Russia’s Grandmaster (GM) Boris Savchenko picked up his fourth win in a row at the expense of Dutch GM Ivan Sokolov to grab the pole position with seven points heading into the final round of the Dubai Open Chess Tournament – Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Cup at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.

Gabuzyan, Ni Shiqun take gold medals in World University Chess Championship

GM Hovhannes Gabuzyan of Armenia and WGM Ni Shiqun of China won the men’s and women’s gold medals, respectively, in the FISU World University Chess Championship held at the Khalidiya Palace Raihaan by Rotana in Abu Dhabi.

Norway Chess 2016 LIVE!

The Norway Chess 2016, sponsored by Altibox, is going to take place in Stavanger April 18-30. It is going to be a ten player single round robin event. Six of the players have been announced and they include the World Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway), the ex world champions Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) and Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), Levon Aronian (Armenia), Anish Giri (The Nederlands), and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France).

Malakoff International Chess Open

The 14th Open International de Malakoff is taking place from 16-24th April at the Salle des Fetes Jean Jaures, 92240 Malakoff, Paris, France.

The 9-round Swiss tournament is organized by the club “Malakoff et Mat”, Ville de Malakoff and Conseil Général des Hauts de Seine.
