The US Virgin Islands Chess Federation is the host for the 2016 edition of the CARIFTA Chess Championships. For those of you who don’t know where the US Virgin Islands is, it is about 60 kilometres east of Puerto Rico and immediately west of the British Virgin Islands.

The General Assembly of the French Chess Federation that was held on 26th March voted to remove Diego Salazar from the post of the Prsident, The Chess & Strategy reports.

First the President’s report has been rejected with 635 votes against, 290 for and 57 abstentions. The financial report was rejected with similar majority 656 against, 173 for, 185 abstentions.

The former top 10 player who has countless tournament victories and has defeated 8 World Champions in classical, rapid and blitz chess – GM Kiril Georgiev – has released his knowledge on the Berlin vs Ruy Lopez.

The pgn database by Kiril Georgiev comes in two parts and is available in the Chessdom shop.

The 2016 edition of the chess tournament Prinsenstad Toernooi is going to take place 25-27 March. The event is divided in three groups and games will be daily live with analysis on Chessdom.

Top participants include local top player and winner of the event in 2009 and 2010 GM Reinderman, as well as GM Lalic, GM Ducarmon, and the author of the 1. d4 vs Grunfeld database GM Arnaudov.

The 7th International Terre degli Elimi Tournament will be organized this summer by Alessandro Monaco and his chess club “Amici della Scacchiera” (Chessboard Friends) on the west side of the Sicily island in Erice.

The 2016 Georgian Women Chess Championship is taking place March 25 – April 5 in Tbilisi. This is the 73rd edition of the championship and is a 12 player round robin with the participation of GM Bela Khotenashvili, IM Lela Javakhishvili, IM Salome Melia, IM Nino Khurtsidze, IM Meri Arabidze, IM Maia Lomineishvili, IM Sopiko Khukhashvili, IM Sofio Gvetadze, WIM Nino Khomeriki, WIM Miranda Mikadze, Alexandra Vakhania, and WIM Ana Gavasheli.

Grandmaster Eltaj Safarli and Woman Grandmaster Narmin Kazimova are crowned chess champions of Azerbaijan for 2016 after convincingly winning their respective sections.

First Mongolian Nations Chess Tournament took place from 13 to 21 March 2016 in Chinggiz Khan Hotel Ulan Bator, Mongolia. It was a round robin tournament (Men’s and women’s sections) having 4 chess players from Mongolia and one representatives from each region of Inner Mongolia, Republics Buryatia, Tyva and Kalmykia (Russia). Prize fund of each section is 48 000 000 MNT – 24000 USD.

The 2016 Faroese Chess Championship is taking place from 19-26 March 2016, in Sandavagur, Faroe Islands.

The event is a 10-player single round-robin tournament with the participation of: FM NIELSEN Hogni Egilstoft 2316, FM NIELSEN Rogvi Egilstoft 2304, FM POULSEN Martin 2234, FM SAMUELSEN Carl Eli Nolsoe 2214, THORSTEINSSON Sjurdur 2201, NIELSEN Torkil 2163, FM SIMONSEN Hans Kristian 2133, VANG Finnbjorn 2095, EYDSTEINSSON Silas 2006 and SOLSKER Tummas M. 1978.
