Granada Chess Open 2025 is taking place July 27 – August 3 in Granada, Spain. Three months before the start of the event, there are already 119 players signed up, among them 31 titled players and 8 Grandmasters. Top seeded at the moment are GMs Gergley Kantor, Bartlomiej Heberla, Casper Schoppen, Yuri Solodovnichenko, Liam Vrolijk, Joseph Girel, Renier Castellanos Rodriguez and IMs Marcos Camacho Collados, Khumoyun Begmuratov, Aaron Alonso Garcia, Francisco Fiorito, etc.

The Uganda National Schools Team Chess Championships are taking place 5-7 May in Uganda. A total of 1100 kids from the country’s schools have collected to play in this massive chess event.

The 48th Thailand Women Chess Championship 2025 took place this April in Thailand. Araya Prommuang is the national champion, having scored 7,5/9. Second place is for Sasinat Tawankanjana with 7,0/9, the bronze is Sirin Bootsumran with 6,5/9

Pirc Memorial 2025 aka Memorial Vasje Pirca will take place May 10 in Slovenia. With a 3000 eur prize fund, the event has created serious local interest, attracting 26 titled players.

Karshi Chess Open 2025 takes place May 5 – 11 in Uzbekistan. It is a 9 rounds Swiss open with the participation of 5 GMs and 16 titled players. Top seeded is Abdimalik Abdisalimov from Kazakhstan, a federation that is currently impressing through the younger categories, dominating the FIDE World Cadet & Youth Rapid and the Western Asian Youth Chess Championship.

Anish Giri and Dina Belenkaya will play a match this May 5 at 19:00 CEST / 13:00 ET. The match is titled “Magic on the board” and will be covered here live on Chessdom.

Belenkaya is joining this match right after winning the title in ALTO. Anish Giri, now part of Team Secret, just won the German Bundesliga at the end of April.

Hans Niemann has withdrawn last minute from Paris Freestyle 2025. The news came right after the official technical meeting on April 5 at 19:00 CET. Later the same afternoon Norwegian TV 2 announced that the main reason for Hans Niemann withdrawing from Paris Freestyle Chess 2025 is the implementation of new anti-cheating measures. The organizers have cited “personal reasons”. There was no official statement until today: exactly one month after the start of the story.

Svarta Hästen Chess & Wine Bar took place may 4th in Stockholm, Sweden. It was a 13 rounds rapid tournament with the participation of 6 GMs and 13 titled players. The winner of the 2025 edition of the tournament is International Master Trost Edvin. The 18 years old Trost Edvin collected 11,0/13, half a point more than GM Galperin Platon and a full point more than GM Georg Meier. Scroll down for the full standings.

At the recently concluded Ljubljana Open 2025, a total of five players finished with 7,0/9, but Jan Subelj won the tournament with a better tiebreak.
