GM Christopher Yoo suspended by FIDE Ethics Commission

FIDE Ethics Commission has finally acted on the case of GM Christopher Yoo. After losing his game of round 5 from the US Chess Championship, GM Christopher Yoo destroyed his scoresheet, stormed out of the playing hall, “and struck a videographer from behind”.

Peter Long Memorial 2025 LIVE

The 2nd International Killer Chess Training, which now is Peter Long Memorial, takes place May 10 – May 16 in Roquetas de Mar, Spain. Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial 2026

Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial 2026 will take place February 20-22, 2026, in Jurmala, Latvia. Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial is part of the Jurmala Chess Festival and consists of a rapid and blitz tournament.

The eldest son of Evgeny Sveshnikov, IM Vladimir Sveshnikov, has already confirmed participation. Among the pre-registered players is also GM Alexei Shirov.

Cairns Cup 2025 – participants and information

One of the strongest female super-tournaments in the world returns in 2025 with the fifth edition of the Cairns Cup! This elite tournament takes place June 10 – June 20 features ten of the best female chess players from around the world as they compete for a $250,000 prize fund, the largest in the event’s history. The Cairns Cup shares its format with other prestigious events like the illustrious Sinquefield Cup — a prestigious ten-player round-robin format of classical chess.

Bucuresti Grand Prix 2025

Neither the tallest skyscraper in the Middle East or China, nor even the largest temple in the world, the heaviest building constructed by mankind is the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, weighing in at just over 4 million tons (in size, it’s the third-largest administrative building in the world after the American Pentagon and the Long’ao of Jinan in China). Its volume, 2,550,000 cubic meters, exceeds that of the Great Pyramid of Giza and is the third largest in the world, after the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center and the Quetzalcoatl Pyramid in Mexico.

Ostravsky Konik Chess 2025

2025 Club Classical Championship

The Charlotte Chess Center’s 2025 Club Championships will be held over Memorial Day Weekend.  This special event will crown the 2025 CCC Club Champions in Classical, Rapid, and Blitz formats.  Players may play 1, 2, or all 3 events.

Dubai Chess Open 2025

The traditional tournament Dubai Chess Open 2025 will take place 27 May – June 4 in Dubai Chess and Culture Club. The event features a stellar participants list, including the 2700 club member Nihal Sarin, the winner of Baku Open Alexander Indjic, the winner of Asian Zone 3.3 Chess Championship 2025 Jingyao Tin, etc.
