German Chess Federation strictly against plans to return Russian and Belarusian athletes to international tournaments

This August 21, through a post by Malcolm Pein, the news that Kyrgyzstan Chess Federation submits resolution to restore the full membership rights of Russian Chess Federation was revealed to the chess world.

Today, the German Chess Federation, in an official press release, strongly objected such development.

Fressinet – Moussard is the final of the French Chess Championship 2024

Fressinet – Moussard is the final of the French Chess Championship 2024. French Chess Championship 2024 is a 16-player knockout tournament held from the 16th to the 25th of August at the L’Alpe d’Huez, France. In the semi-finals Fressinet defeated Laurent Paoli after tiebreak. Extra games were needed for Moussard too, who defeated Romain Edouard.

The first game of the final is today at 14:30 CET.

Women World Chess Cup 2025 in Batumi

The Women World Chess Cup will take place in Batumi, Georgia, from July 5 to 29, 2025. It will be a 103 player tournament with a total prize fund of US$676,250, with the first prize of US$50,000. Top participants (invited) will include the Women’s World Chess Champion, the top four at the Women’s World Cup, and the 2024 World Girls U20 champion.

The exact format of the Women World Chess Cup 2025 is to be announced.

TCEC splashes a brand new VSOB chess opening

It is not April 1st, but it is certainly a fun day over at TCEC. While waiting for Swiss 7 (advance: the strongest Swiss event the chess world has seen) that is scheduled to start next week, TCEC display a “Viewer Submitted Opening Bonus”. In that mini event all openings are submitted by users and top engines are creating pure art on the board.

Veselin Topalov was a guest at the online studio of Kod Sport in his home country, Bulgaria. In a video titled “I was among 3000 prisoners in Medelin” he talked on multiple topics, including the current state of chess, his manager Danailov, the role of computer chess, his loss from Anand in Sofia, the state of Bulgarian chess, his games in the prison in Medelin, and more.
