Olympic spirit and smiles! This is how one would describe the Paraguay team delegation for the Chess Olympiad 2024 in Budapest. Seeded 57th in the open section and 65th in the women section, Paraguay national teams are already on their way to the Chess Olympiad. Before landing in Budapest, large part of the team will participate in the Open Sants 2024 , which boasts 700 participants.

On the anniversary of the “Englishman in New York”, Malcolm Pein shared, “Well over 20 years ago Chris Botti came into the London Chess Centre to buy Sting a travel chess set for his birthday. Last week’s Kingston Invitational, organised by the Guardian’s Stephen Moss, earned a niche in chess history when it produced the longest ever decisive Fide-rated game, 272 moves. Billy Fellowes v CM Peter Lalic sparked controversy when it emerged that Lalic has aimed for this record for a few years, and already has several three-figure games recorded in databases.

Alina Kashlinskaya is the winner of the Tbilibi FIDE Women Grand Prix. In a dramatic final round, where Kashlinskaya and Assaubayeva entered as shared first with 5,0 points each, Kashlinskaya managed to score a full point with black in her game against Mariya Muzychuk. Assaubayeva drew with Vaishali and Kashlinskaya remained the sole winner in the final standings.
