The Menchik Memorial Challengers Tournament 2024 is a 10-player round-robin, held from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September in London, United Kingdom. It is valid for WGM norms and includes Julia Antolak, Elmira Mirzoeva, Aleksandra Lach, Andreea Novratescu, Machteld Van Forest, Kamila Hryshchenko, Ruqayyah Rida, Zoe Varney, Anusha Subramanyan.

The Akiba Rubinstein Memorial took place on 17-25 August in Polanica Zdroj, Poland. It was won by Vincent Keymer, after a stunning 6,0/7 start, which secured him the title. The tournament was the 60th anniversary of the festival and included multiple chess tournaments and side events. Chessdom spoke to the chief organizer, Aleksander Sokolski.

“This is the closest the ratio of men’s to women’s teams has ever been in the history of the Chess Olympiads,” says Dr. Zoltán Polyánszky, President of the Hungarian Chess Federation.

India is heading as one of the favorites for the gold of the Chess Olympiad 2024. Captained by Srinath Narayanan and Abhijit Kunte, Indian teams boast a strong bid both in the open and women sections.

For the first time the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships will take place North America. The 2024 edition of the World Rapid will be in Manhattan, New York, December 26-31, 2024. This is a changed compared to previous editions, as the event used to finish December 30.

David Llada summarizes the problem, “I hope the conference on finance touches on the topic of “how to improve your credit scores”, because booking a room in Manhattan during New Year’s Eve will probably require getting a loan.”

The Chess Olympiad 2024 has India as the highest rated team of the event with average rating of 2467 ELO. They are closely followed by Georgia (2461), Poland (2418), China (2414), Ukraine (2402), Azerbaijan (2402), USA (2388), Spain (2382), Germany (2380), Kazakhstan (2370, and Armenia (2365)

The Chess Olympiad 2024 is breaking participation records both in the Open and Women sections. According to the July rating list, the top team of the Olympiad is USA with average ELO of 2755, followed by India (2753), China (2726), Netherlands (2687), Uzbekistan (2684), Norway (2673), England (2666), Germany (2663), Hungary (2663), and Poland (2662).

The Chess Olympiad 2024 will have an official song. This is Rose May and Raul – Trojan war. It inherits the Chess Olympiad 2022 Anthem | FT. Hon Chief Minister MK Stalin aka Welcome to Chennay, and is yet another musical addition to chess.

The Chess Olympiad 2024 in Budapest breaks the participation record. 2022 Chennai Olympiad held the participation record with 187 teams registered in Open competition and 162 teams registered in the Women’s competition, a record that was previously set in Batumi, 2018 with 182 teams representing 176 countries in Open and Women sections.
