An explosive day at Biel Chess Festival with major upsets in the Open tournament

The first round of classical chess at the Biel Grandmaster Tournament GMT had it all: the players with the black pieces were victorious in three of the four games. Of the top 3 in the standings, only Esipenko was able to score and thus takes the top spot in the intermediate ranking due to his draw against Keymer. In the open tournaments MTO and ATO there were also quite a few surprising results and it shows that the favourites have to be very careful of their challengers.

Aronian, Wei, Duda and Rapport advance to FTX Road to Miami semi-finals

The big guns struck back in the FTX Road to Miami today as the tournament’s established stars overcame the youngsters. Levon Aronian, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Wei Yi and Richard Rapport all clinched semi-final places in the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event.

It meant heartbreak for the young Americans Jeffery Xiong and Sam Sevian while India’s teen sensation Arjun Erigaisi also went out along with the more established Anish Giri.

European Senior Chess Champions 2022 crowned in Lublin, Poland

European Senior Chess Championship 2022 concluded yesterday in Lublin, Poland. The event took place from 4th-14th July, 2022, being played in two age categories 50+ and 65+, with separate prizes for female players.

The Closing Ceremony of the event took place yesterday evening, with Chief Arbiter Tomasz Delega announcing the Winners. Paweł Zaskalski – Vice President of the Polish Chess Federation joined the awarding ceremony.
