The International Chess Federation has declared 2022 as The Year of the Woman in Chess and established special Awards for Women in Chess. The awards recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to women in chess and the criteria for nominations are as follows:

The FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 reaches its halfway. Ian Nepomniachtchi and Fabiano Caruana separated themselves from the rest of the field, scoring 4.5 and 4 points, respectively.

FIDE Council decided to waive rating fees for Rapid and Blitz over-the-board tournaments held in 2021-2023. The Financial rules of the FIDE Handbook have been updated accordingly, says FIDE, adding that FIDE constantly works on reducing various fees.

Leading Stockfish developers have filed suit against ChessBase to enforce their license termination claiming Chessbase has “repeatedly violated central obligations of the GPLv3 license”. The court hearing in the case Tord Romstad and Stéphane Nicolet vs. ChessBase GmbH will take place on Monday, July 4th, and Stockfish calls all interested parties to attend the hearing.

The Azerbaijani grandmaster Teimour Radjabov played against Richard Rapport in the 6th round of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022. He had a dominant position but blundered the win away just one move before the time control. @ChessMike captured a moment when Radjabov checked his phone for the truth after the game and he truly seems unhappy with what he sees (see the video below).

After a thrilling round 6 of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Fabiano Caruana separated further from the rest of the field. Both players won their R6 games, with Nepo maintaining the sole leadership with 4.5 points and Caruana following him with clear second place and 4 points.
