Serbian Chess Federation organizes the International Open Chess Championship of Serbia, called “Serbia OPEN 2022” from June 28th – July 6th. The event takes place in Novi Sad, Master Centre, with participation of 267 players in the Masters event (for players rated 2100+) and 133 players in the Amateurs event (for players rated U2200).

19-year-old chess prodigy Alireza Firouzja scored his first Candidates victory yesterday after winning an exciting game against Richard Rapport. In the post-game interview, Alireza commented on three brilliant moves from the game joking with chess.com’s Chief Chess Officer Daniel Rensch: “I hope I don’t get banned again“.

A 16-year-old youngster from Teheran IM Bardiya Daneshvar emerged as the winner of the 55th Iranian Men’s Final Chess Championship and took his maiden national title.

FIDE has announced the World Amateur Championships 2022 to be held in Malta from October 20-30 in the 4-star conference hotel “Paradise Bay Resort”. It will be one more major international event hosted by Malta recently, after the successful European Small Nations Team Championship in December 2021.

The European Amateur Chess Championship 2022 will take place from 13th August (arrival day) to 21st August 2022 (departure day) in Hotel Aristos****, located in the city of Zagreb, Croatia.

The 15th edition of the International Chess Tournament Teplice Open 2022 took place from 18-26 June at the Teplice House of Culture. More than 200 players from 35 countries participated in the tournament which featured a total prize fund of 185.000 CZK (~7.500 EUR).

After a heartbreaking loss against Ian Nepomniachtchi in the 7th round of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022, Richard Rapport decided to focus on his outfit rather than on the game preparation. The audience loved the jacket he wore yesterday and Richie disclosed it was a choice of his wife WGM Jovana Rapport: “I would like to say something overconfident, but actually it was my wife choice. She insisted on me wearing it (the jacket) yesterday, which proved to be very smart that I avoided that.

Fabiano Caruana suffered a tough loss yesterday against Hikaru Nakamura. He was fighting to survive a completely lost position and it seemed that he had chances to escape. Nakamura was satisfied to get the revenge from the Round 1 loss against Fabi, and disclosed he was preparing the line for more than two hours. (Interview with Hikaru Nakamura)
