IM Dante Beukes and WCM Lishen Mentile are 2021 Namibia Chess Champions

The Namibian Chess Championship 2021 took place 30 April – 04 May in the Windhoek Country Club Resort. The open section was a ten player single round robin. IM Dante Beukes dominated the event and finished with a perfect 9,0/9

The women section was eight player single round robin and was significantly more contested. WCM Lishen Mentile collected 6,0/8 , half a point ahead of WFM Rauha Shipindo.

Mitropa Cup 2021

Mitropa Cup 2021, the annual team chess tournament for national teams from Central Europe, this year will be played as an Online hybrid event.

10 nations compete in Women and Open sections: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland.

The 73rd edition of the Montenegro Individual Chess Championship has started yesterday in Podgorica, Montenegro.

The battlefield is led by GM Djukic Nikola who defends the title of Montenegro National Chess Champion.

Polish Chess Championships 2021

The 78th Polish Individual Open and 73rd Polish Individual Women Chess Championships 2021 are underway in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Open Championship is played as a knock-out event and two matches are being played for a spot for the finals. Top seed Radoslaw Wojtaszek fights against Bartosz Socko, while Mojranda Wojciech plays against Pawel Teclaf.

Carlsen wins Lichess Bullet Arena

Just a day after winning the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, Magnus Carlsen scores yet another title. Playing with his traditional online username GM DrNykterstein, Carlsen won the Lichess Bullet Arena. The World Chess Champion finished with 114 points (Lichess system) and win rate of 87% ahead of GM Sergei Zhigalko with 96 points and 77% win rate and GM Jonas Bjerre with 73 points and 66% win rate.

24 years ago: Deep Blue vs Kasparov

Deep Blue – Garry Kasparov was a pair of six-game chess matches between the world chess champion Garry Kasparov and an IBM supercomputer called Deep Blue. The first match was played in Philadelphia in 1996 and won by Kasparov. The second was played in New York City in 1997 and won by Deep Blue. This match marked the end of human attempts to meaningfully challenge “the machine”.
