Italian Open, Women and Junior Championships

The Italian Chess Federation organised the Open, Women and Junior Individual Online Chess Championships in the period from 13th-23rd November 2020, and announced the respective winners: Valsecchi Alessio, Zimina Olga, Di Benedetto Edoardo and Raccanello Marianna.

The event consisted of three stages: Qualification stage played within 2 groups whose winners proceeded to Semifinals and eventually the Finals of the Championship.

Sanal Vahap defends the title of Turkish Champion

22-years old Grandmaster Sanal Vahap defended the title of the Turkish Chess Champion, in the recently played Turkish Chess Championship, which took place from 13-21 November 2020 in Kemer, Antalya.

Sanal Vahap won the event convincingly, as the top seed, scoring 7 points out of 9 played games. Second place came to IM Melih Yurtseven with 6.5 points, and bronze went to IM Gokerkan Cem Kaan with 6 points.

The total prize fund of the event was around 7.000 EUR, with 2.500 EUR reserved for the 2020 Turkish Champion.

Skilling Open line-up

Two of the most exciting names in world chess have been added to the line-up for the Skilling Open, the first event of the new $1.5 million Champions Chess Tour.

The 16-player tournament kicks off on Sunday and includes the American speed chess king Hikaru Nakamura and teen hotshot Alireza Firouzja.

Russian Team Chess Championships

The 27th edition of Russian Team Chess Championship and the 21st Russian Women’s Team Championship started in the Grand Hotel Zhemchuzhina, in Sochi, following all health protocols of Krasnodar region.

The event takes place from 18-29 November, and teams of Mednyi Vsadnik from Saint Petersburg and Ugra defend the title of the Russian National Team Champions.

In total 23 teams (10 in open section and 13 in women’s section) represented by the best Russian players fight for the total prize fund of around 17.000 EUR.

European Online Women’s Club Cup

FIDE Grand Swiss 2021 announced

sahInternational Chess Federation FIDE announced the FIDE Grand Swiss 2021 to be held from 25th October – 8th November in Isle of the Man.

The event will be limited to 164 participants, with 114 players in Open section and 50 players in Women section.

Russia setting stage to take the 2022 Chess Olympiad

FIDE President and Russian CF President are campaigning through the state agency TASS to move the 2022 Chess Olympiad from Belarus to Russia.

In successive interviews for the Russian agency the two officials are certain that “Russia could host the World Chess Olympiad 2022 instead of Belarus”.
