Asian Junior Chess Championships 2025

The Asian Junior Ches Championships 2025 take place June 27 – July 03 in Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka. The Asian Junior Ches Championships are divided in Open and Girls category and feature 93 and 72 players respectively.

David Navara vs Ediz Gurel match

The young talented Grandmaster Ediz Gürel will play a chess match with Czech Republic’s number one player, Grandmaster David Navara at the Art Nouveau Municipal House Palace in Prague on June 26-27. It will be an 8 games rapid match. Chess fans can attend both days of the event in person, with games scheduled from 3 p.m. to approximately 7 p.m. Tickets will be available directly at the venue.

Pragg vs Richard Rapport, a candidate for the game of the year

Richard Rapport won his round 6 game of the UzChess Cup vs Praggnanandhaa in style. Many now consider this the “game of the year” and something that “we have not seen since Kasparov”. Kasparov himself commented, “Wonderful game by Rapport! And I thank him for refreshing some fond memories of my own games with 15..Nxd5! similar to what I played against Jan Timman in two games (Moscow 1981 & Linares 1992).

Sport Club KPRF is Asian Chess Club Champion

Sport Club KPRF is the winner of the Asian Chess Club Champions League that took place June 17 – June 26 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. The players of Sport Clun KPRF GM Daniil Dubov (2693), GM Vladislav Artemiev (2676), GM Maxim Matlakov (2625), GM Pavel Ponkratov (2548), and GM Vladimir Malakhov (2636) collected 13 Match Points (MP) and 22 Game points (GP) in 7 rounds. The silver medal is for Ugra Chess Academy, who collected the same Match Points, but had 20 Game points.

The Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Las Vegas is a major Chess960 (Fischer Random) tournament, part of the 2025 Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour.

Daniel Alsina Leal wins Pula Open 2025

Daniel Alsina Leal is the winner of Pula Open 2025. The Spanish Grandmaster collected 7,5/9, half a point more than a group of six players. The tiebreak criteria gave the silver medal to FM David Stevanic, while the bronze is for FM Milan Popovic, The top junior is Raem Sherman, the top woman of the event is Narmin Mammadova. Pula Chess Open is among the top European chess events in The Chess Calendar for the month of June.

FIDE Women’s World Cup round 1 pairings

FIDE Women World Chess Cup 2025 is taking place July 5 – July 29 in Batumi, Georgia, and is one of the major events of The Chess Calendar. A total of 107 participants (increased from the initially announced 103 participants) will compete for 691 000 eur prize fund. This is the third edition of the FIDE Women’s World Cup. The first one was in Sochi in 2021 and was won by Alexandra Kosteniuk.
