Stepan Avagyan Memorial is taking place in Jermuk from May 28 to June 6, 2025. The tournament is a 10 player round robin with the participation of two 2700+ players – Praggnanandhaa Ramesh Babu and Aravindh Chithambaram VR.

Samuel Sevian is also back to Armenia, after being winning the event in 2023 and silver medalist in 2024.

Caleb Levi Levitan, born June 15, 2010, is a 14-year-old South African chess prodigy and FIDE Master, recognized as one of the country’s top chess players.

Caleb Levitan last week achieved a rating that will make him the newest International Master and the youngest in South Africa to attain this title. He will officially receive his title after the FIDE Congress in June.

The TV miniseries Rematch is a six-episode psychological thriller dramatizing the historic 1997 chess match between world champion Garry Kasparov (played by Christian Cooke) and IBM’s supercomputer Deep Blue. The VII Torneo de Ajedrez del Caribe a la Rueda Rueda 2025 is a prestigious chess tournament organized by the Fundación a la Rueda Rueda in Colombia, aimed at promoting chess among children and adolescents aged 6 to 17. The Mitropa Cup 2025 will take place from May 13 to 22 in Trencin, Slovakia in Hotel Magnus. The Mitropa Cup is a team chess competition involving countries from Central Europe, organized by the Mitropa Chess Association. It includes an open section and a women’s section, with each team typically consisting of four players and one reserve.

The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships take place June 10-16, 2025, in London, United Kingdom. The World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships are back – with a record-breaking €500,000 prize fund. This is double the prize fund of Dusseldorf, which was €250,000, and more than Kazakhstan, which was €350,000.

The IX Torneio Internacional de Xadrez SESC Caiobá will take place from June 27 to July 6, 2025, at the Hotel SESC Caiobá in Matinhos, Paraná, Brazil.
