Chinese Team Chess Championship 2025

The Chinese Team Chess Championship 2025 is taking place 25 April – May 3 in Zhang Jiakou, Hebei, China. 18 teams participate in the open section (see the women section here). Top seeded is the team of Shandong (rating average 2523) with GM Yang Wen on board 1. The highest rated players in the competition are GMs Wang Yue, Li Chao B, Xiangyu Xu, Shanglei Lu, Wen Yang, etc. Scroll down for the full team composition.

The Chinese Team Chess Championship 2025 is taking place 25 April – May 3 in Zhang Jiakou, Hebei, China. The biggest chess tournament in Africa – this April with 7000+ players

The 2025 Kenya National Schools Chess Championship happened 4-8 April 2025 at the Mangu High School. A record total of 7,242 players from 880 schools took part in the event, making it the biggest chess tournament in Africa! With that mark Kenya surpasses the expected 6000 players at the Supernationals

The 56 years old Ukranian Grandmaster is still sending ripples through the chess world and setting an example for future generations.

Nihal Sarin enters the 2700 club

Despite the ongoing deflation, the most elite chess club has a new member. Grandmaster Nihal Sarin is now officially over 2700 ELO! This happened today after round 4 of Menorca Chess Open 2025 where the rating favorite Nihal Sarin won his 4th game in a row.

Sohum Lohia earns his final IM norm

Sohum Lohia is a 15-year-old chess prodigy from England. At the Grandmaster group of the Southend Easter Chess Festival 2025 Sohum Lohia finished with a bronze medal, added 15,3 elo points, and most importantly earned his final IM norm.

Pawel Teclaf wins Southend Chess Masters 2025

The Southend Chess Festival 2025 took place 18-21 April in Southend, England. It included a GM round robin, an IM round robin, an open group, U1900, U1600, and U1300.

The winner of the Southend Chess Masters Grandmaster group is GM Pawel Teclaf with 6,5/9. FM Alex Golding finished second with 6,0/5, while FM Sohum Lohia received the bronze, edging GM Vojtech Plat and GM Igor Janik, who all finished with 5,5/9. Alex Golding and Sohum Lohia both won IM norms.

Jose Camacho-Collados is Welsh Chess Champion 2025

Jose Camacho-Collados won the 2025 edition of the Welsh Chess Championship. He won the title achieving an impressive 6.5/7 score at the Welsh Chess Union (WCU) Championships. The silver medal is for Iwan Cave (who also became Welsh U21 champion) with 6,0/7, while the bronze is for FM Grzegorz Toczek with 5,0/7. The Welsh Ladies champion is Emma Zihan Kong, who finished with 3,5/7.
