This is one of the stories of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League day 2. It was provoked by the lack of increment, just like the dirty flagging of Alireza Firouzja vs Magnus Carlsen.

Torquay Weekend Chess Congress

Torquay Weekend Chess Congress is taking place 25 to 27 October, 2024. Milton Keynes Rapid Chess 2024 is taking place from 05 to 06 October in England. Milton Keynes Rapid is a 6-round Swiss weekender with 20 minutes + 5 sec time control. The event has an open section and sections U1800, U1600 , and U1300.

Alireza Firouzja dirty flags Magnus Carlsen in day 2 of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. In a time scramble, Firouzja opted for 80…Nh4 winning on time instead of winning the queen. Carlsen lost on time since there is technically sufficient material to checkmate still on the board. Taking the queen would have been a draw.

World Chess Hall of Fame celebrates players, authors, journalists, scholars, organizers

The World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) today announced the 2024 U.S and World Chess Halls of Fame inductees. Members of both Halls of Fame are chosen for their impact on the sport and have included players, authors, journalists, scholars, organizers and supporters of the game.
 

ECU Annual Training Program – information and details

European Chess Union and ECU Trainers Commission, supported by FIDE Development Fund, announce the annual training program in period from 18th November 2024 to 29th April 2025.

The 4th Annual Training Program will feature two groups:

● Group A – Over 1900 Rating: Monday 18:00-20:05 CET (Juniors/Girls U20)
● Group B – Under 1900 rating: Tuesday 18:00-20:05 CET (Juniors/Girls U16)

Lichess reaches 6 billion rated games

The free online chess server, and currently the best place to watch and play chess Lichess.org has reached the 6 billion games played mark. “6 billion rated standard games and counting! All available for download,” says Lichess in the celebratory tweet.
