The Serbian Women Team Chess Championship 2024 is being held from September 27 to October 7 in Nova Varosh, Serbia. A total of 76 players compete in the 11 rounds team event. Romanian Women Team Chess Championship 2024

The Romanian Women Team Chess Championships 2024 is being held from September 30 to October 6 in Mamaia, Romania. The tournament is a round robin with strong participation, including IMs Irina Bulmaga, Ekaterina Atalik, Ulviyya Fataliyeva and WGMs Viktoriya Radeva, Andreea Navrotescu, Michaela Sandu. Oskemen Chess Open 2024 LIVE

Oskemen Chess Open 2024 is going to be held from October 2 to October 10 in Oskemen, Kazakhstan. The tournament is organized by the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and will be a 10 rounds Swiss event. The top rated players are GMs Manuel Petrosyan, Xiangyu Xu, Aram Hakobyan, Bardia Daneshvar, S.P. Sethuraman, Jakhongir Vakhidov, Jinshi Bai, Timur Gareyev, Denis Makhnev and Kazybek Nogerbek.

Spanish Senior Chess Championship LIVE

The Spanish Senior Chess Championship aka Campeonato de España Veteranos 2024 is going to be held from October 5 to October 13 in Roquetas del Mar, Almeria, Spain. The tournament is going to be 9-rounds Round Robin. Top players will include IMs Josep Anton Lacasa Diaz, Jose Candela Perez, Javier Aguera Nareda, Luis Maria Campos Gambuti, Diego Guerra Bastido and Victor Manuel Vehi Bach. GM Zenon Franco Ocampos passes away

A sad news for chess – GM Zenon Franco Ocampos passed away in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, at the age of 68. He was a strong chess player, a motor for chess in his country Paraguay, renowned book author, a FIDE Senior trainer. In the 1982 Chess Olympiad at Lucerne, he won the gold medal at board one by scoring 11 of 13. In the 1990 Chess Olympiad at Novi Sad, he shared first place at board one with 9 points in 12 games.

Nakamura: I do not like the new FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess 2024 format

The World Rapid and Blitz 2024 has been widely criticized for the dates chosen and the additional cost burden on the participants. Now Hikaru Nakamura adds to the problems – he says that FIDE is changing the format, “so that they ensure somebody like Magnus Carlsen or myself is in the finals, and potentially winning the tournament”
