FIDE Intercontinental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners

This week marks the start of the 4th FIDE Intercontinental Online Chess Championship for Prisoners, part of FIDE’s Chess for Freedom initiative, which unites incarcerated individuals from over 50 countries competing in a global online chess event. This championship exemplifies FIDE’s mission to highlight the transformative power of chess within correctional facilities, promoting self-improvement, and critical thinking.

48th Guernsey International Chess Festival Open Preview

The 48th edition of the Guernsay International Chess Festival is being held from October 13 to October 19 on the eponymous island in the English Channel. The Open portion of the festival features 31 players who will play 7 rounds of Swiss. The top players at the event include GM Keith Arkell, WGM Katarzyna Toma, WFM Olivia Smith, Gunnar Johnsen, FM Philip Giulian, Norbert Krueger and CM Peter Kirby. GM Giga Quparadze claims Georgia Chess Champions Cup 2024

The winner of the Georgia Chess Champions Cup 2024 is GM Giga Quparadze. GM Quparadze competed with 29 other players and secured victory with a near perfect 8.5 points out of 9. The top 3 is rounded out by GM Tornike Sanikidze with 7 points and FM Luka Kiladze with 6.5 points.

Croatian Team Chess Championships 2024 LIVE

The Croatian Team Chess Championship 2024 is being held from October 5 to October 12 in Veli Losinj, Croatia. There are more than 100 players in 10 teams competing in a round robin. The top players include GMs Ivan Saric, Johan-Sebastian Christiansen, Dmitrij Kollars, Yuriy Kryvoruchko, Ivan Cheparinov, Ante Brkic, Maksim Chigaev, Sergei Movsesian, Alexander Motylev and Evgeny Postny. The ECU Trainers Commission organizes the second Seminar for trainers’ education & titles, from 25 November – 5 December 2024. In the Webinar the titles of ECU Expert Coach, or ECU Junior Coach, or ECU Novice Coach, may/will be awarded.

The Marsa Matrouh Chess Open 2024 is taking place from October 4 to October 10 in Matrouh, Egypt. Over 50 participants will compete in a 9 round Swiss tournament. The top seeded players include IMs Sayed Barakat Hassan, Walaa Sarwat, Abdul Hameed El Arousy and FMs Ashraf Amin, Yousef A. Alhassadi, Farid Tamer Waguih and Gamal Fayad.

FM Reja Neer Manon wins SixDays Budapest Chess Tournament

The Group A of SixDays Budapest Two Years Chess 2024 has concluded with a victory for FM Reja Neer Manon. Manon managed to secure 6.5 points in 10 rounds of play and was ahead of the competition of Chakraborty Mayank, Balazs Pasztor, Vojtech Plat, Sambit Panda and Ritvik Krishnan.

This makes it yet another event in Budapest after the Chess Olympiad 2024.
