The 15th annual Philadelphia International Chess Tournament took place from 24-28 June at Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown which hosted the Philadelphia Open and will be the venue of the 50th World Open starting tomorrow.

GM Andrew Tang wins Philadelphia Open

The Philadelphia International Chess Open took place from 24-26 June at Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown which will also host the 50th World Open starting tomorrow.

The event was played in 5 sections: Major, U2100, U1800, U1500, and U1200. GM Andrew Tang triumphed in the Major section, scoring perfect 5/5 points, and pocketing the money prize of 1600$. IM Thomas Bartell, Roger Martin, and Ben Johnson tied for second place, claiming 633.33$ each.

Nakamura predicted the outcome of the FIDE Candidates way before it started

Hikaru Nakamura predicted the outcome of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 way before it started in Madrid. The chess statisticians and top grandmasters saw Alireza Firouzja and Ding Liren as the main favorites to win the event, and a chess legend Garry Kasparov added Jan-Krzysztof Duda on the list of the favorites.

IX IBCA World Team Chess Championship commenced in North Macedonia

The IX IBCA World Team Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired takes place in Ohrid, North Macedonia, from June 27 to July 08, 2022. The competition follows the “trademark” IBCA format that combines round robin and double knockout, similar to some high-level football tournaments. According to the results of the 2021 IBCA Olympiad, the sixteen strongest teams are seeded into two groups of eight teams each to play seven-round round-robins.

Alexandra Kosteniuk not happy with the new system of the Women’s Candidates Chess Tournament

The FIDE Council approved a new set of regulations for the Women’s Candidates Tournament, adopting a knock-out system with 8 players to be played between 2022 and 2023. The event will be played in a knock-out system with 4-game matches (plus a possible tie-break) with the finals being played over the distance of 6 games. Women’s Candidates Chess Tournament 2022/23 – The new system, Pools & Participants list

The FIDE Council has approved a new set of regulations for the Women’s Candidates Tournament, adopting a knock-out system with 8 players to be played between 2022 and 2023. The first two stages of this knock-out will be played as 4-game matches (plus a possible tie-break), with the final being played over the distance of 6 games. The total prize fund will stand at a record 250,000€.
