Women’s Candidates Chess Tournament 2022/23 – The new system, Pools & Participants list

The FIDE Council has approved a new set of regulations for the Women’s Candidates Tournament, adopting a knock-out system with 8 players to be played between 2022 and 2023. The first two stages of this knock-out will be played as 4-game matches (plus a possible tie-break), with the final being played over the distance of 6 games. The total prize fund will stand at a record 250,000€.

FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 – R10 preview

After nine played rounds at the 2022 FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament, Ian Nepomniachtchi maintained the sole lead with 6.5 points and a full point advantage over Fabiano Caruana who is second with 5.5 points. Hikaru Nakamura and Ding Liren tie for third place with 4.5 points, each, and seems that no one can disturb Nepo’s first position. After yesterday’s free day, the event continues today at 15:00 CEST with the 10th round.

Judit Polgar: People go nuts against Nepomniachtchi (VIDEO)

The best female chess player of all times GM Judit Polgar does a daily broadcast of the FIDE Candidates Chess 2022 together with GM Jan Gustafsson. During the 9th round, Judit shared interesting thoughts on Nepomniachtchi’s games and compared him to the chess legend Garry Kasparov: “I remember when I was a kid, and I was looking Kasparov’s games, you could find quite a few games where people lost in a way that people wouldn’t lose against other strong grandmasters the same way.

Amin Tabatabaei is the Winner of Stepan Avagyan Chess Memorial

The 3rd Stepan Avagyan Memorial took place June 20-28, 2022 in Jermuk, Armenia. The event was played as a 10-player round-robin tournament with an interesting mixture of young stars and local talents.

GM Nebojsa Nikcevic wins Pula Chess Open 2022

The 34th edition of the International Chess Tournament “Open Pula 2022” will took from 18-26 June at Park Plaza Histria Hotel in Pula, Croatia. More than 150 players from 25 countries participated in the event which was played in 9 rounds, swiss system, featuring the prize fund of 6.250 euros.
