Unanswered letters for more than 3 months, delegations scattered in different hotels, lack of communication by FIDE officials, last minute change of regulations and conditions, unexpected extra costs. These are just a small part of the issues experienced by the teams of the upcoming Chess Olympiad 2024. The Secretary General of the Croatian Chess Federation Alojzije Jankovic comments, “It’s not a big deal to check with previous Olympiad organizers […] it’s not something new.”

The new Chairman of the Ukrainian Chess Federation is Alexander Kamyshin. The new chairman was elected at the 12th Congress of the Federation. The delegates made the decision unanimously. Alexander Kamyshin succeeds the previous president was Viktor Kapustin.

The European Youth Chess Championship 2024 has just finished in Prague, Czech Republic. The Ukranian players were a special highlight of the event.

Timothe Razafindratsima is the European Youth Chess Champion U18. Timothe Razafindratsima won the gold medal by finishing with 7,5/9, half a point ahead of competition. Arsen Davtyan is second, while third place is for Sohan Belkaid.

Noga Orian is the European Youth Girls Champion U18. Noga Orian started as top seeded and finished the event at sole first with 7,5/9. The second place is for Izabela Tokarz, edging on tiebreak Mariia Manko.

Klara Szczotka is the European Youth Girls Champion U16. Klara Szczotka finished in a group of six players with 7,0/9, but won the gold medal on tiebreak. Second position is for Alexandra Shvedova, while third is Elif Zeren Yildiz.

Marco Materia is the European Youth Chess Champion U16. Marco Materia scored 7,5/9 and edged on tiebreak Benik Agasarov. The third place is for Aksel Bu Kvaloy with 7,0/9.

Vera Vujovic is European Youth Girls Champion U14. She started as a rating favorite and scored 8,0/9 to win the title, crossing the 2200 ELO mark. Second and third are two Georgian players – Mariam Kalandadze and Kesaria Mgeladze.

Vaclav Finek is the European Youth Chess Champion U14. Playing on home soil in Prague and starting as a clear rating favorite, Vaclav Finek left no chance to his opponents finishing top of the table with 8,0/9. Second place is for his compatriot Bayarjavkhlan Delgerdalai, while third is Felix-Antonio Ilinca.

Varvara Matskevich is the European Youth Girls Champion U12. Varvara Matskevich won the title with the fantastic 8,5/9 points and crossed the 2000 ELO mark. Second and third with 7,0/9 are two players from Turkey – Zeynep Duru Sahin and Senem Gul Bassari.
