2023 Excelsior March GM Norm

The 2023 Excelsior March GM Norm will take place from 13-17 March 2023 in Toronto, Canada. The time control is 90 minutes and 30 seconds per move, starting from move one. It is 9-round Robin tournament with participation of Victor Mikhalevski, Gabor Nagy, Nikolay Noritsyn, Luis Fernando Ibarra Chami, Joshua Posthuma, Bator Sambuev, Mark Plotkin, Anthony Atanasov, Mike Ivanov and Zachary Dukic.

Sasomi Open 2023

The Sasomi Open 2023 will take place from 15 – 19 March 2023 in Baile Felix, Romania. This tournament will be profiled for players with rating under 2200. The prize fund is 10 000 EUR with 2000 EUR guaranted for the winner. The time control is 60 minutes and 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

Chessable Masters Play-In | Champions Chess Tour 2023 – LIVE

The Play-In for the Chessable Masters, the 2nd event on the $2 million+ 2023 Champions Chess Tour, takes place on Chess.com on March 13 and will decide which 52 players join Magnus Carlsen, Wesley So, Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana in the main event from April 3-7. It begins with a 9-round Swiss tournament, with the top finishers then advancing to Match Play, where a 2-game match, with possible Armageddon, decides who qualifies and to which of three Divisions.

Kirill Shevchenko joins the top with one round to go at the European Individual Chess Championship 2023

Heading into the last round of the European Individual Chess Championship 2023, GM Alexey Sarana (FIDE, 2668) and GM Kirill Shevchenko (ROU, 2668) share the lead scoring 8 points each.

GM Kirill Shevchenko (ROU, 2668) outplayed GM Benjamin Gledura (HUN, 2637) in the penultimate round to join the race for the trophy. Shevchenko had a slightly better position from the opening, transforming it into the pawn-up edge. Gledura still had chances for escape, but after 30…Rb2?! the advantage for the Romanian grandmaster kept rising.

Girls U20 Czech Youth Championship 2023 – LIVE

The G20 Czech Youth Championship 2023 is taking place from 11–18 March 2023 in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou, Czechia. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. It is an 10-player round-robin tournament with participation of Lucie Fizerova, Sandra Hosova, Iva Petirova, Pavlina Dudova, Anna Voriskova, Tereza Radmila Sulcova, Adela Trasakova, Tatana Nespora, Martina Stastna and Daniela Nagyova.

U20 Czech Youth Championship 2023 – LIVE

The U20 Czech Youth Championship 2023 is taking place from 10–18 March 2023 in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou, Czechia. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. It is an 12-player round-robin tournament with particiaption of Ondrej Svanda, Adam Frank, Marek Mica, Michal Jares, Jachym Smolik, Jakub Ocelak, Stepan Hrbek, Petr Gnojek, Rudolf Jun, Matous Hlavina, Petr Mach and Michal Kubiczek.

Alexey Sarana takes the sole lead in European Youth Chess Championship 2023

GM Alexey Sarana (FIDE, 2668) defeated GM Anton Korobov (UKR, 2658) in today’s 9th round to take the sole lead in the European Individual Chess Championship 2023 with only two rounds to go.

V Prague International Chess Festival – Open section

The 5th year of the Prague International Chess Festival will take place at the beginning of the summer at the Don Giovanni Hotel in Prague. In the Masters tournament, we can look forward to 10 top grandmasters, among them the winner of last year´s Masters tournament Pentala Harikrishna from India, best Czech player David Navara, chess legend Boris Gelfand from Israel and the winner of last year´s Challengers tournament Vincent Keymer from Germany.

It is a 9-round Swiss Rapid tournament with participation of Igor Kowalski, Szymon Walter, Patryk Chylewski, Antoni Szustakowski, Milosz Szpar, Mieszko Mis, Radoslaw Psyk, Mikolaj Nowak, Aleksander Kumala, Marcin Szelag, Kosma Pacan-Milej, etc.
